Default Why is it when you actually have some money you become more worried?
Well, I finished Uni last year and have a job I like with a decent salary. Yet now I catch myself watching my acount alot more often than when I was a student with no money at all. When I was a student I spent everything on fast food, partying and other useless crap, now I'm like "nah, I dont want to go out tonight, I wanna save the money"... I am not buying DVDs anymore like I used to, and I dont upgrade my PC as often when at the same time my financial status is like 20 times better than what it was during the Uni years. I see the money on my bank account, but I dont want to spend it.

Why am I writing this? Because I just told a friend that I'll be staying home tonight because I dont want to spend any money this weekend. Yay!

You went from one extreme to the other. I think you should find a middle ground where you are able to spend frugally but still find some money to have fun on the weekends with your friends.

Find a happy medium. See your friends, but don't spend more than is needed.

edit: jinx, asylum.

very true: mo' money, mo' problems!

You're just becoming a responsible adult. Let those people who have no understanding of savings and investment suffer with their debt. When they lose their homes, cars, and jobs, that is when you can go in and take it away from them. That is what my parents did a long time ago. They bought a foreclosed home in Orange County. Now the home is almost worth $1 million.

That's one of the more cold hearted comments made on the boards recently.

If you have money and friends are asking you to go out what does it hurt to spend a little ?

It only matters when you are really hard up which it sounds like you are not.

Balance is key [yes]

Its because the money you had as a student was proabably just given to you in a loan whereas the money you have now you actually earned over time.

prob from the same ilk of person who accepts gifts, dinners, etc and never returns the favor, avoids eye contact when the cheque comes. that really was a shitty comment.

Exactly, when you start measuring how long it takes to make a certain amount in comparison to how long it takes you to spend it, spending cash loses some of it's thrill.

And I bet he eats babies for breakfast and sends the umbilical cord back to the mother. Very sickening, indeed

Probably when you were a student you had less to lose. Now that you are settling in, you have more to lose, and so you naturally become more careful. Its an old pattern and marriage will exacerbate it. Children even more so.
Even the insurance companies know that as you get older and more established, then eventually married, then married with children, you will tend to be more and more more careful.
Our society actually counts on that.

Mainly it is because there is less stuff worth spending money on and you have probably learned that upgrading too often doesn't pay off.
