Something Completely Different

I my free web-time I am always searching for new things, something I have not encountered before: some idea, some concept, something I could never have imagined on my own. Sometimes I hit the jackpot.........

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhVfeOAgmAw

......and find something beautiful that opens a whole new doorway into something otherwise well explored. I am so glad I did not miss hearing this womans music. But then after finding things like this I am sometimes a bit sad, later.

How many other wonderful things will I NOT find on my short little stay on earth?
But for today, Its Jackpot time! [yes]

Hope you like it too!

What was that? A joke?

Some girl who can barely sing so they put a filter over her singing?

Wow, that was quick! Well, I was actually expecting a comment like yours in exactly that tone. (it was inevitable) [yes]
I guess will have to say I respectifully disagree. Sometimes there are rewards to being more open to new things.......
Or you can stick forever with the same old same old. Thats a valid choice, too.

I have to agree. I thought it was a joke as well. Each to their own I guess.

I didn't like either. It sounded familiar though... is it a cover?

I watched the first 45 seconds and had to close it. What was i listening to? A girl singing or two feral cats in a back alley going at it kitty cat style?

Interesting. I have listened to a lot of music over the years (my family were almost all singers, musicians, actors and dancers or other types of entertainers) and I was raised on everything from opera to country western to rap.
But I have noticed that when showing new things to friends, (music/foods/books) I find that again and again people (even relatively young ones) tend to have a much more strictly defined taste/territory zone than mine.
Its a shame, since I like sharing stuff: but I suspect I am going to have to learn to keep my trips out over the horizon more as private pleasures. [surrender]

Oh, well. Nobody likes my opera or classical, (or Tori Amos or October project) either! http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/laugh1.gif

Years ago one of my managers at the time said the same thing about some Sarah McLaughlin I was listening to. He almost went apoplectic over some Tori Amos I was listening to a few days later, and mumbled for the next two hours over the "Cats in an alley awful trash" youngsters were listening to.
I guess my tastes are quite odd. I just had not realized how much so.

I have respect for Imogen Heap since she does all of her work herself. She wrote, produced, engineered and mixed it all herself.

h0ldem 01-14-2008 04:52 PM

wow that was interesting in an awful way. (and hey i love Prince, Björk, etc)

GECEDEANY 01-14-2008 06:06 PM

All I could picture was the SNL Dear Sister skit. Good song otherwise though, pretty interesting. I sometimes listen to some songs that people find weird. My woman looks at me funny when Roisin Murphy comes on during my playlist.

PemiaGefe 01-14-2008 06:15 PM

that's not for me... it is too raw, i am too much of a suxor for manufactured music... http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/blush1.gif

I like it, I've heard it before somewhere, I'm sure it was used in a film or something.

I think the effect is just a vocoder going through a vocal harmoniser, but yeh, nice [thumbup]

AriaDesser 01-14-2008 07:34 PM

Well I liked it http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/smile1.gif

Nah quite decent honestly. Although you are entitled to your opinion. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...lies/wink1.gif

Hmm. Not bad, actually I think it does have some potential.

I've heard this song used quite well on a couple of TV programs - and in the right place it does sound good.

But generally, while she's pretty, I don't think she'll have a good voice... people with a good voice don't distort it electronically.

An...... interesting observation. I might point out that there is almost zero modern recorded music that leaves the singers voice completely unaltered, but otherwise I leave your statement to its merits.
