Or try using EphPod. A little less friendly than iTunes, but no Apple garbage on your system, which is a plus.

on the topic of ipods , my son got one for christmas and he keeps bugging me with "how do i put movies onto it"
so he has alot of dvds and he would like some of them on his ipod (i think its 140gb) what would be the easiest way for him to do this? is there an easy way through itunes or what?

You need to use some ripping software to convert the DVDs into a format itunes can recognise. Handbrake is quite popular.
