Default Goodbye to Hijack
Hijack is my 9 year old Springer Spaniel, pictured bellow from my camera phone last night.

He's been a very poorly dog the last few weeks. First he wasn't eating, then he started throwing up blood. His back end has always been a bit dodgy (He was a working dog and had arthritis) and last niht he couldn't even stand up.

We've been back and forth to the vets for 2 weeks, probably cost about £1000 in pills and injections and last night was his last night to show improvement. We were told if he didn't show any signs of improvement by Wednesday that was it, there was nothing more they could do for him. Since he was throwing up more blood last night we decided this morning he will be put to sleep.

So goodbye to Hijack, a faithfull wally, slightly mental lump of a dog.

RIP

What's a working dog?
He was a gun dog, retrieving pheasants and rabbits on the local shoot. He hadn't done that for many years tho because of his bad back legs.

He was the softest dog I've ever known, scared of his own shadow, but when he was out of the shoot he really came alive.

He's due to be at the vets in about an hour, I'd like to be there for the end, but I'm at work and they won't let me slip out for the time.

It's a shame, I wanted to give him a big fuss before he's taken.

I'm not too bad, it twangs a bit knowing he's only going to be with us another hour or so, but at the same time he's been suffering so much the last few weeks it'd be cruel to put him through that any longer.

Deed's been done now, apparently the Vet found indications in his last blood test that he'd got bad kidney problems and possibly cancer. Looks like we made the right call.

RIP buddy.

i had a dog a few years ago that had similar problems and suffered in the same way. its sad to see, and is best to stop the suffering even if its hard to do.
