Default Great article on why DRM in music will die
http://www.wired.com/entertainment/m...?currentPage=1

And you can thank Apple. The basic argument is that either Apple will take over the music industry, or DRM has to be removed so other retailers can sell music that will work on the iPOD.

Meh, DRM was a failure and everyone knew it. Does apple still restrict its music? (with fairplay DRM?)

Some music is now DRM free (iTunes plus). You get a better bit-rate and pay $0.29 more...

However it is watermarked, so if it ends up on a P2P network, you could end up being liable for that.

Isn't it easy as firing up a tag editor to delete that? Or is it done in some other way?

I hope CD's never die. I dont ever want to buy music online. Until it is 100% unrestricted.

Frankly I don't know anyone personally that has bought anything from itunes or any other online music retailer. CD's are the format of choice for everyone I know.

I have moved away from most tactile media. Only thing I buy occasionally are DVD movies I really enjoyed.

The DVDs I own I rip to my HDD and then access them through my Base Station so its in essence a file server.

I either buy iTunes tracks I like, preferably iTunes Plus music as it does sound a fair bit better on my speakers. As for other music I have again an extensive CD collection that is ripped to iTunes in high bitrate Apple Lossless. I want the industries to start keeping up with people like myself.

Its a real shame more programs or movies are not downloadable. But I am sure with movies and the rumored movie rental service via iTunes will have plenty of DRM within them! Thats fair enough, but if I buy something (rights to use it) I want to use the media without restriction. Its entirely unfair to assume everyone out there is trying to upload the content to allow others to illegally use it!

Anyway my point is that I love the idea of not needing any disks to gain access to content. Having a library of movies is so great for Front Row and linked with my iTunes library. More services and tools like this need to exist. Glad Apple is leading the way currently [thumbup]
