Default iMac 24" Extreme is in front of me!
Got my stunning 24" iMac today. I was not expecting it to be so HUGE. 24" screen with a little chin which houses other bits. New keyboard supplied is very smooth, looks great and great to have a Mighty Mouse again.

I have longed for a 1920-1200 screen... so much space. Brightness over my iBook display is amazing... like going from a dark room into blinding sunlight (honestly have to take a moment to adjust between the two).

Speed is phenominal, 2.8Ghz Core Extreme makes iPhoto, iWeb surfing the net a breeze. Runs Quake 4 beautifully at:

1920-1200
High Detail
Maxed effects

Hoping Apple kick EA in the arse for their Cider powered games to launch or at least be pre-orderable via the UK Apple site. I would imagine they run well considering how badly Aspyr handled Quake 4. Comparsion my fathers:

Dual 2 Ghz G5 PPC
2 gigs SDRAM
6800 Ultra DDL

Runs Quake 4 the same as my:

2.8Ghz Core 2 Extreme
2 gigs DDR2 667
HD 2600 Pro
800 Mhz FSB (Santa Rosa)

Bit odd but going on reviews I read I am very impressed by first hand game playing! Will post some pics after I eat... been busy transfering my iBooks content to this [surrender]

How well do other games run on it?
And how much was it?

For the shoddy coded crap us OS X users get its not bad on a middle of the range card Make shift desk until I buy one tomorrow. Just got my entire video collection from Spain into iMovie.... its amazing how easy it is to edit and play with the footage!

No idea on other games as I am on OS X via my fathers games collection Quake 4 is the only interesting/demanding title (Doom 3 is so awful its not worth touching). Might get Tiger Woods 08 and BF2142 later when there out

*Hides behind desk chair*, trust me its also damn uncomfortable sitting higher than the keyboard and mouse (being 6' 6" also not good) and being in my rooms door way means any music via my ProMedia set goes throughout the whole house.... not great in any respect really

Big Edit - any chance one of you Americans can send me BF2142 to the UK.... no light at the end of the tunnel with regard to UK release of these new EA games!

I wouldn't mind doing that, I don't have a local Apple store so I would have to order online but toss $5 or something my way and I'll hook you up.

I find all this speculation very amusing . I did spend 1327 quid on it, but my iBook, laptop bag, iSight will help cover that + work I have been doing since back in the UK.

Hunched over my iMac also has certain connotations but believe me... its being used with respect

Just a side note on the game... any idea if there is anything to stop me using a U.S game on my iMac. As far as I can remember its only consoles and DVDs that will be problomatic

It was a it silly when I got it, was a little overwhelmed by its size and when I got certain apps like iMovie (picture Minority Report style cursor movements over videos while editing) its so slick.

I just found out that Front Row (use the remote to enter a menu that within a few clicks plays iTunes music, Videos, DVDs etc) can stream all Movie trailers from the Quicktime website to my machine on the fly! Amazing [thumbup]

I might take acarney up on his offer.... I am quite sure it will be a while before Apple UK gets the games in hand [thumbdown]
