Default NTL\Virgin broadband mega slow in Lincoln :@ ?
pofs is all i can say.

Im on 2mb (yeah not fast) but anyway, ive been getting 90kb\s download max for the last few hours, and when I ping sites, I get responses of over 250-300ms rather than 20ms or so.

Anyone else experiencing problems atm?

Virgin media suck btw, if you are thinking of joining them dont

(I have been an ntl customer for over 7-8 years, before they were even called ntl, and NEVER had a problem. Now in the few months since virgin have taken over, nothing but problems, knobs)

M tier users who download over 350MB will have their speed capped at 1Mbps during peak

90kb/s is less than 120kb/s.... but i guess you are uploading too

Its been really slow here in Bristol the past few days for me. It has been randomly disconnecting and taking ages to load a web page [thumbdown].

NTL and Telewest merged a few months ago. The tech support and infrastructure was still ntl on one side, and telewest on the other. The combined company, ntl:telewest bought virgin and changed its name to virgin media, since virgin was a better known brand. The tech support is still ntl side, telewest side, and virgin.net side. Same call centres, same people, same rubbish systems.

So either you're being affected by an outage or your computer is gubbed.

http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/summary.do given the red dot on broadband, I'd go for the outage option.

Actually AFAIK its just the NTL call center now, they got rid of most of the telewest people.

Strange cableforum.co.uk all say that its NTL only, but if you work there then you obviously know!

Oh and can you put me on the 50mb trial? [thumbup]

Yeah, that forum is terible. Nothing but folk complaining on it, and a lot of misinformation going around.

And fortunately I don't do the whole first level "did you switch your modem off and on?" thing any more

Ah, well now you can post and say "your sources on the inside" say they are, and look all knowledgable ;o)

Although if the powers that be are having to impose such strict limits as they're doing just now, that doesn't seem a grand idea. I spoke to one of the head honcho types once and they say they do it in the knowledge that only a tiny percentage of folk actually make use of the speed available to them, the others download the odd file very quickly and go "ooh" and believe the monthly fee is worth it just from that.

My speed has been halfed literally, checking my torrents it's halfed this last hour, presumably capped at peak times, this NEVER happened before they changed to Virgin, so yeah, Virgin are POS

I dont really care about download speed that much anymore to be honest.

I dont upload much, but it just seems like 768kbit is a rip off.

It should be double that atleast. Tell them that, from me.

I'm doing a few speed tests to prove to Virgin Media that my connection is crap, then when they have the proof I'm migrating to BT Total broadband as they seem to be quite reasonable at the moment.

I get absolute crap download speeds at every other time apart from 6am - 8am every day, My connection is currently 1mb, as due to some financial problems in the last few months I dropped to the lowest package from 8mb, But my connection is as bad as it was then.

In the mornings between 6 & 8 I use to download on the 8mb Max DSL connection at about 750kB/s, but any other time of day and it would be under 50kB/s, now I'm on 1mb, my download speed would be faster on a 56k modem, which kinda takes the piss.

So in order to not pay a fee of £109 for migrating before my 12 months contract is up with virgin, I'm having to log a series of speed tests at BT's site to prove to virgin how crap my connection is, so I can dispense with the £109 fee and migrate to BT.

Hopefully it'll be sorted by next week, cos I'm really pissed off at virgin and just wanna decent ADSL service worth paying for.
