any particular reason why?

what justifies the £300 extra it would cost?

It has better black levels mainly.

The R87 models dont have the Super Clear Panel and other stuff that the M series have and therefore their blacks arent as good. Panasonic Plasma's are some of the better "mainstream" plasma's you can buy. Neither set is 1080p, so the Panasonic IMO is the better quality set BUT, is it worth £300 more? thats your call.

Oh and its bigger lol.

I'd go Samsung M86/7 - full HD (not necessary but nice to have) TV's loaded with 1013 firmware support 24fps for judder free viewing (so long as your player supports it, PC's can force it)

Dropping down a notch or 2 the R87 is great value for money (still love mine) HD content looks fantastic, black levels are still great without a 'super clear panel'

That model costs a decent amount more than the R88 model though.

Curious question: How do you check firmware on a HDTV and also how do you go about updating it?

I'd never even looked at the M87, but i can definatly say it has knocked the R87 out of the race. and it could get the most out of the blu-rays is a bonus
