Default song lyrics Eagles Desperado
Okay so in Eagles Desperado

what does the phrase out riding fences mean? Where did it come from? Is it derived from a religion?

"Why don't you come to your senses
You've been out riding fences, for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
But I know that you've got your reasons
These things that are pleasing you
Will hurt you somehow"

Ive tired looking it up and all I get is hits on fans of clint black and a bunch of blogs.

I kind of just think it has to do with escapism...

On huge ranches there are miles and miles of fence. Cowboys were sent out to ride the fence line searching for places that needed repair.

So your surmise of escapism is pretty good because it was often a solitary job.

Exactly. Sometimes fence riding took days because ranches were huge back in the day.

Oh, it's quite simple really. Someone is accusing this Desperado of being a bisexual, as is plainly clear when we read "out riding fences." "A hard one" needs no further explaination. The last two lines warn of the threat of contracting an STI (sexually transmitted infection) by way of reckless sexual misconduct.

I have always thought you have a very skewed world view, now I know.

Wow waters, that's a great analysis! I've never really thought about the lyrics to this song, though I daresay I've heard them enough. Would you mind providing insight to the rest of it?

lol @ waters

Thats pretty cool I always wandered where this came from and now I know.

Thanks for all the the responses!

PS tequila sunrise is an excellent drink!

And as such it deserves to rear its ugly head in any thread of mine; no matter how off topic it might be...
