Default FRAPS
So everytime I record myself playing a game with Fraps, it doesn't records the sound, only records sound from my microphone, but not ingame sounds. Can anybody tell me if it is possible to record ingame sounds?

And another thing about recording, why does it take up so much memory, when i record a game for say 4 minutes, the files size of the movie is around 4GB, like 1GB per minutes or something, whats up with that, i've seen recording on the internet used with fraps that go for like 8 minutes and only 100MB in size. I'm thinking they compress it, and my mate tells me they convert it to a different video format. Can you tell me how to record without it taking up so much memory. I have selected the option "Half size" which only records at half the resolution I'm using. But no difference, any help?

I dont think you can encode it to a compressed format on the fly, or the game would lag majorly.

As for the sound... can you select input source as "stereo mix" or something?

I dont know cause i've never used it before.

You can convert your videos to smaller file sizes with a program like VirtualDub. Look it up on Google (as well as how to use it), it's not very difficult. Don't know about your sound issues though.

Your default recording device is likely set to "Microphone" and needs to be set to "What you can hear" if you want to record ingame sounds.

You can also use Windows Movie Maker to compress video files. It's not that bad either.

Where can I find this "What U Can Hear", I've looked on my SoundMax control panel. Control Panel, Sounds Speech & Audio devices, Sounds and Audio Devices, Audio tab, Volume (option under sound recording), Properties and couldn't find "What U Can Hear", or anything that came close to that.

Heres a screen shot:

in recording control, visit options.

select you want to have more settings visible. You may see more options to chose from, and you can also select wav/mp3 as recording.

in FRAPS itself, makes sure it lists same thing as in your sound control panel.

It showed you the options in the screen shot i took, there are only 3 options to choose from, and how can i select between wav/mp3 etc?

Don't have a Speaker Icon in my Taskbar, only the SoundMax control panel which also only shows 3 options:

Its a Vista Theme for XP, called WindowBlinds. I don't have Vista *installed* yet, and I'm currently low on money atm, don't even think i've got enough to upgrade my system from a 512MB RAM to 2GB like i was planning, in fact, i doubt i have enough money for 1GB of RAM :-(

Yea, i don't have stereo mixer, i don't normally record with fraps, i just use it to tell me how well my well my computer is performing in games.

Thnx for the help, I'm just gonna have to buy a sound card, and since I hear vista don't support sound cards (unless they have brought out new drivers i havn't heard of) its gonna be tough to find one
