I absolutely cannot stand Stanley Kubrick's movies. It's his pacing that kills me. My attention span can't hold on during his ridiculously long, drawn-out scenes that are intended to set the tone or convey some kind of emotional state (like the scene in The Shining where the kid is endlessly riding his Big Wheels around the hotel, or the annoying as hell Star Child evolution scene or Hal death scene in 2001: A Space Odysee). It just doesn't work for me. I'm the type of person who just wants to get to the freaking point. I like things to be concise. Quick. Efficient in communication.

I think I'd enjoy his movies better if I could still understand the dialogue while playing them triple-speed fast forward.

Phenomenal movie. I remember kids in junior high talking about it, and it sounded like it was just a violent, pointless movie. I rented it (this was probably back in '82 or '83) and even as a young 'un I thought it was a brilliant film. Malcom McDowell always had a knack for playing those types of people. He was like the Christopher Walken of the 70's LOL...

Ah, A Clockwork Orange. Nothing is quite as entertaining to me as watching the film lovin' so-phisticates defend this movie like it were their own child.

You'd think it would be difficult to see the screen with your nose turned up so high.

But don't get me wrong; I want to be so-phisticated as well. I want to belong. I just don't know if I can ever bring myself to say that I enjoyed the movie.

So you see the pickle I'm in, here.

Now now, there's nothing wrong with a little bit of the ultra violence! [thumbup]

One of my top 10 movies, that's for sure - The thing I love the most about it is the dialogue - The book is superb, BTW.

As a matter of fact, I've read the book, not seen the movie.

At first I wanted to see the movie but refrained, as one usually gets disappointed in these cases. But now it's been so long since I read the book that I might actually rent the movie if it happens to be on my local DVD-shop's shelves...

One of the stupidest movies i've seen. I tried to watch it while on chemicals, sober, drunk and stoned and it always such a struggle. This is IMO of course.

To the peeps who haven't seen it but are palnning to, do yourself a favor and watch Apocalypse Now or some other good movie.

I can't stand the movie, it's far to artsy for my liking, but then I suppose that opinion just makes me stupid.

Funny how someone can post a topic of conversation and within about 4 posts it's already degraded into a slanging match - imo that just shows some peoples interlect, or lack there of.

It doesn't make you stupid.. just means you have an opinion. I love how most people here think that individual taste is a black and white issue. There are no facts when it comes to personal taste people so STFU and get over it. There can be general consensus one way or the other but just because a person doesn't like a movie that a lot of people think is good doesn't mean that person is uncultured, stupid, or any other negative.

Personally I didn't really like a clockwork orange either.

Nah I don't believe that, call me close minded if you like but I believe some opinions arn't even worthy of consideration.
To some it may be a great film, to others merely good; but never bad.

I've always thought that line of reasoning was pretty silly (whether applied to movies, books, or anything else). For that viewpoint to be valid, one must assume that a person's opinion about something should somehow be dependent upon other people's opinions. If I watch a movie and I get no enjoyment out of it at all, then it's a worthless piece of crap to ME. It doesn't matter if the movie has merit to other people with different perspectives. I am not one of those people. I am an individual, and I have my own perspective. Therefore, in my own personal reality, it is bad. It may be good in yours, and that's what how opinions work.
