Default I can't make fun of Honda's any more.
Well,my Outback has been really fun to drive...but,it's getting to be a bit of a money-sink.

I was really unsure about driving it to Canada, and I may not even have gotten it back by the time I leave...so. Someone told me last night they had just gotten a 1990 Accord EX and that it was mine if I wanted it. I was skeptical. But today I went to look at it,and it's in beautifull condition, the interior is perfect,it has a power moon roof, power everything, everything works. It's a bit quicker than the Ob too, after 30mph or so. It's a 5spd manual too.

I don't like the color,it's a kind of gold-ish brown,but it's freshly repainted and looks good.

I'll get some pics up later today after I go pick it up,there will probably be stereo instal pics as well since I'm gonna be switching things over tonight.

Same hp/same torque, but the Accord is a fair bit lighter. Ob's are big cars for a normally aspirated 4 cylinder. I'll say this though,I didn't get to drive it much, but I can already tell the OB would murder the accord around turns. OB's are soooooo controllable and slideable...I am going to miss that. I may be able to find a way to keep that too tho.

I'm already loving the moon roof though, that's great.

I can't make fun of Honda's any more. I can.

I'll never own a FWD car as a "sports car". They belong as daily drivers, grocery getters, and people movers. FWD has no place in the sports car market. RWD or AWD is the only way.

When honda stops labeling FWD cars as hot hatches, and sport compacts then I'll stop making fun of them. The only honda's worthy of any respect are the s2000, and former NSX, as well as past RWD cars they've done.

I'm not taking it because I think it's a sports car,it's a sedan (room),it's moderately quick-ish,it's comfortable and will reliably get me around.

If the OB could just get the reliability thing down.

I was responding more to your thread title than anything else. However, I think accords make good daily drivers.

In reality a daily driver just needs to be economical, reliable, cheap to fix, and comfortable to drive over long distances. Other than that, I don't look at much else in a daily driver.

Not even a CTR/ITR?

I'd consider them a "sports car".

Ummm... You could take it and then always sell it for like $5k since it is a Honda.
If its free, why not?

BTW, FWD isn't all that bad. SRT4 is an awesome sports car at least in a straight line. Not sure how it does around the corners. Impala SS / Grand Prix GTP can keep up with a Daytona/RT Charger around a track.
I do prefer RWD/AWD over FWD but never underestimate FWD. Not very many people even get near the limits around the bends in there sporty cars. I have raced cars in a Accord and a Sebring on this one particular road that is half straight away, half bends. Once we get to the bends, I am always right up on their arse.
There is also this other road, that most of my friends have raced on in their RWD sport cars. Supra, Supra TT, RX7 and I got the same time as the Supra TT did on the stripe.
Even with FWD, it all depends on the driver themselves, and them knowing the cars limits. Plus with most FWD, you get a nice daily driver go getter that is also a sleeper that can surprise the hell out of people.

There are quite a few FWD cars that would hand most RWD cars their sliding ass; ITR namely.

That said, I do prefer RWD.

Yeah yeah, who cares,I like RWD better too, that's beside the point.

I've already handed several trucks, yeah that's usually who gets upset at me passing them, their asses.

I'm gonna go throw my subs and amp in the car and get pics up here this afternoon.

H22 swap perhaps? Though the vtec point on the H22 is 5200 RPM so probably not.

Given you say 4k, that's in line with the stock F23's 3900 RPM vtec... perhaps it feels quicker because you're just not used to driving a car with vtec, even as mild as the vtec in Accords is? It was a similar feeling in my '01 Accord. Hit 4K RPM and the engine would come alive. Of course "coming alive" basically just meant it was still kinda groggy from the deep slumber that is 1k-4k RPM [rofl]

Stock vs stock the Accord is a good 1-2 seconds faster 0-60 then your outback.

Just be sure to refill the vtec fluid every 3K miles and for added performance consider spending the extra $ on templeofvtec branded vtec fluid.

I see vtec as a way just an easy way to say that you have awesome petrol mileage and super high HP in a tiny motor when nothing happens until a ridiculously high rpm.

Though I have recently been thinking that I might actually like vtec if there was a supercharger. You would get nice low to midrange power increase, and by the time the supercharger has done its work, BOOM!!!, vtec kicks in and acts like a mini turbo to give you that high end power.

There are different 'types' of vtec that do different things. They type of vtec you talk about it used in the high output motors, such as the H22 (prelude engine) I mentioned earlier. But the vtec in (non-R) Accords is much milder and enables much sooner in the RPM range.

The twin turbos in the BWM 335i work similar to what you mention in your second comment. They are there primarily to boost low end torque (full torque comes at a crazy low 1400 RPM) and then the engine basically takes over as a n/a after that.

I know the engine was replaced, but probably just with the same thing. Dunno,I like it though...except if I nail the gas in a turn it starts to spin and get some axle hop going. Takes getting used to,the OB I could just aim and fire and it wouls slide right where I wanted it.
