He's saying that instead of one long F1 race there should two separate shorter races with a reversed grid for the second like they do in GP2. An interesting idea, what you do think?

I'd love to see the folks with the best qualifying time start at the back of the grid. Of course folk would just do rubbish in qualifying then, so yeah this thing where if you win the first bit you start last in the second would be really cool, and would ensure tons of overtaking and general excitement.

They just need to do it so that the cars are less reliant on aerodymamic grip, so it is easy to overtake. And as much as people balk at NASCAR I gotta say this. EVERYONE has a shot at #1, even the guy starting in the 42nd spot. NASCAR is a race, F1 is an EVENT. And Rally is plain sweet. |

Couldnt have said it better myself. The only problem with NASCAR is that they arent driving on real race tracks with lefts AND rights. Would be alot more interesting that this merry go around. |

I don’t want a race on Saturday and a race on Sunday both half as long as a normal one. Qualifying is just about a race already, if they want two races then have a sprint race for twenty laps or something as qualifying and then they qualify wherever they cross the line. Then demand at least one pit stop with the race fuel being loaded on at that point. They need to keep the Sunday race the same though, seriously, think about it only being 20 or 30 laps. Most the action happens near the end when the track has as much rubber as possible and the cars have been stressed the most. Sometimes the front runners just can’t hold on that long (either driver or car), sometimes the guys at the back of the pack with a single stop are able to finally work their way into the points just on the closing laps, and sometimes after a whole race of one car leading the second place guy slides ahead just 10 laps from the end or something because of pit stops. If you cut the race down it’ll be a mad dash from poll and the same action you have now on the first three laps or so and once the grid is set then they’ll cross the line like that because there’s no time for anything else to develop.
Now if they meant a race every weekend from April until the fall instead of every two weeks or sometimes three then I would be a little more for it, but I don’t think the track list would change very much and it would just be split into two shorter races on the same weekend. Give them really good tires and let them continue engine development (OMG, it’s too expensive!) and then reduce aero stuff. Then the teams will be able to build more power to keep cars from passing and for the straights and stuff but will have a harder time in the twists because of the downforce. It would be really interesting allowing them to go faster, but making it a lot harder for them to be able to handle that kind of speed, thus striking a compromise between fast straight line speed and amazing braking and mechanical grip for passing in the turns. I just don’t want it turned into a single type of spec where every car is making the same amount of hp alone the same power band with the same fuel consumption and the same gearing and downforce. Formula 1 is about the teams (Ferrari, BMW, etc) and cars just as much as it’s about the driver. I don’t care if one car wins because it’s able to push 25,000 rpms out of its engine while everyone else blows up at 24,000 rpm. Teams will always adapt to the other guy really fast and it leads to amazing development. The only thing is cost, and frankly, I think the big guys will always pony up the cash. |
