Default Lewis Hamilton - Future world champ or fad?
Well he has made history in making the most successful start for a rookie F1 driver ever. He has shown real skill, and complete composure under pressure. However, he still IS just a rookie, can he continue? I mean he is leading the championship, which is a phenomenal achievement at this stage.

I personally think he is defo gonna be a world champ, but not this year. McClaren seem to be lacking straight line speed. I also think the real test will be Monaco. If he puts on a performance there, his status as the biggest talent with the most potential in the last 20 years will be vindicated.

I am concerned that the car is helping cover his rookie status? This has happened many times before, look at Button for example.

But Hamilton has shown that he is at least as good as his team mate and considering his team mate is a 2x world champion, that says a lot about him IMO. I don't remember Button doing any any better than his team mate when he started at Williams (although I could be wrong).

I think he will be a future world champion, but I don't think this will be his year. I would put my money on Raikkonen.

Naturally Hamilton wouldn't been a sensation he is now if driving Spyker, but he is very talented, level minded and even in performance. Alonso have all the reasons to worry. Alonso still is the WC lead, BTW.

I'd agree that Monaco is the drivers circuit, asking for some skills and mad attitude to drive that fast between the steel fences on a narrow road. [thumbup]

Then we'll see.

He's a fad, he still has a lot to prove imo...

I'm not saying that he's not a good driver, but it can be just beginners luck. I think it's better to wait until the end of the season before making judgments.

button is one of the best drivers on the grid. he'd be winning races if he was driving a mclaren/ferrari. he always got pretty much the best from his car.

As much as I like the way he drives, I have a feeling he will start to fade out after a few more races. Once the other drivers get in to their groove.

But I hope that I am wrong, would be very sweet if he becomes the next world championship.

Future world champ for sure, to out qualify and out finish Alonso in the same car in only his third race speaks for itself, the kid is a born racer...

No wonder Schumacher thought it was a good time to retire...

I think we wont really know till he crashes, see how he bounces back from that but from what i can see he is incredibliy talented and seems to be able to find more speed when he needs it.

I wouldnt be supprised if this thing with Massa, if Massa can keep his head could go a long way into the season and if it does they could run away with it.

BMW may come from no where as well, they are improving very quickly, they wont be able to challenge for the top spots but could keep pinching points with 4th or 5th possibly some 3rd place finnishes later in the season as well.

Either way, its looking like a good one.

I wonder how much of Merc/McLaren technology trickled down the line, it might have been easier for Hamilton to get used to the car compared to Alonso being so used to Renault technology. It’ll be interesting to see midseason if Alonso is still fighting hard to inch ahead or is even behind Hamilton. If that’s the case, then Hamilton will probably just continue on amazing everyone, if things even out a little then yes, he’s a good driver, but he’s with a good team too and he’ll have to do some growing to separate his skill from the skill of the team.

Apparently Hamilton has been given equal status with Alonso. In other words they will allow him to fight for the title. [thumbup]
