Just saw it last night and I absolutely loved it. One of the best man movies in recent memory. After watching it I immediately went home and chugged a beer and then smashed the can on my forehead.

Then I started to cry becuase it really, really hurt!

I doubt your mother was a Spartan woman as only Spartan women give birth to real men.

Seen it twice already & plan on seeing it at the IMAX soon. Will definitely buy it on Blu-Ray when it comes out...

Seen it 4 times, yeah, I know that's pretty lame. I saw Sin City 5 though

What can I say, I'm a massive Frank Miller fan!

I loved it.

It started a little slowish and the dialog was a bit overdone/hammy, but the fight scenes and visuals were a bunch of fun!

Two things I wished would have been different: SPOILER white, lol
1. Spear at the end should have went through xerxes mouth, like the wolf.
2. When the captains son is beheaded, they should have had a blood fountain...even IRL AFAIK the blood will shoot up pretty good.

I almost charfed when that leper licked the oracle though...nasty

Watchmen is utter genius. It's probably the only graphic novel that could go toe-to-toe with most other "serious" works in western literature. It's far and away Moore's magnum opus. Although I don't want to give too much away, I remember being totally enthralled during my first reading.

Terry Gilliam had wanted to direct this for some time into a film adaptation, but quickly abandoned the idea and said it was virtually impossible unless done in a serial format. Since then a string of other directors have shown interest but never committed. Harry Knowles said after reading the script that if a talented director ever got behind this project it would overtake The Godfather as the greatest film in American cinema. If Zack Snyder is indeed directing then I can only hope he stays true to the novel and doesn't pussy out on the ending, but with the indignities Alan Moore has suffered at the hands of Hollywood, I'm not overly optimistic.
what adaptaion movies from Alan Moore have been made? I've heard of the Watchman and that it's good, but have never read them.

I really liked the movie. But my brother said he didn't like it at all. He's kinda a history freak and said it was not accurate to the real events that actually took place.

I frankly don't care. I liked the whole style they did the movie in.
tell your brother to lighten up, who would have ever thought it was historically accurate[rofl] the legend (300 spartans vs 1 million Persians) (almost certainly) isn't historically accurate either. But the main point being...who in the hell would go to see a graphic novel made stylized film to be historically accurate. A hint as to the historical accuracy might have been the big huge Persian with saws for his arms.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but i can't wait. I'm tempted to go see it on IMAX, but a good theater w/ huge screens is 5 minutes away, IMAX is 1/2 hour. Is it worth it for IMAX? i bet it's intense. IMo, the sound of IMAX theater's is more impressive than the screen. INSANE[thumbup]

V for Vendetta, From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Constantine (note: he created the character John Constantine, but for use in Hellblazer comics. So whilst its not a direct film of his work, the title character is).

Alan Moore has never been involved with any of the films made though. He has always had his name removed from the films in question, and not been a part of the creative process. At first he thought it would be a good idea to sit back, get some money out of it, and by removing his name from the film it would remove the original comic work by association. However after having been less than impressed by the films made so far, and a legal dispute over League of Ext. Gentlemen, he now refuses to allow any comic he owns the full licence on to be made into a film.

Watchmen will be the next Moore work to be made into a film, and I'd highly recommend that people read it before the release as it is just amazing. Its one of the best books I've ever read, comic or otherwise, and I don't think a 150 minute movie will do the original work justice, let alone the story telling technique employed in the book which will be hard to transfer to the big screen.

I don't see how it will even come close. I fully expect a butchery of a masterwork [no]

In April 2005, film writer and director Darren Aronofsky revealed in an interview that singer David Bowie was at one point working on a rock opera adaptation of Watchmen. OMG now that is appalling [shocked] (From the wiki)

Sorry!!! I thought I was in the clear!!! I know if I wanted to stay away from spoilers I would not be reading pages and pages into a thread on a forum about the subject after it was released.

[rofl]

*edit* also I fixed my initial post....not that it will do much good since the two people who pointed out the error of my ways managed to copy the entire spoiler not once BUT TWICE. Personally I think just the title itself should be a spoiler warning. This is a discussion forum, to discuss the movie, it you want a thumbs up with nothing more, there are plenty of movie review sites....

One thing that worries me is the youngest of the Watchmen is Laurie, at 36 years old. The rest are into their 40s, not to mention one character who is 5' 6" and is described as very ugly. I can imagine the studio thinking "who wants to see a film full of 40 year olds wearing spandex?"...Cue Orlando Bloom as Rorschach...[thumbdown]

*Spoilers* ???

Did anyone notice how everybody in the movie is effing ripped?
Holy crap, on some of the scenes where the army was marching along
all you saw were the abs sticking out and their pecs shinning.

Must have gone through a lot of preparation to look like that,
on one of the scenes the girls in the theater squeaked when the main guy
pushed that wooden door open and his back muscles popped out.
I'm a guy and like lifting a lot, but these guys just look insane.

They had to, they're spartans. The most pure human soldiers to ever walk this earth. If they looked like me, I'd have been angry.
