Hey!
So I have this website, which I wanted to grow into a forum. http://www.new2newyork.com I admit I have not maintained it very well, but it has been spammed to death by bots, mainly from 58.65.239.196 Is there anything I can do? |

I haven't used phpBB that much in the past, but try this mod out... http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewt...afb73a9dc99e8d
It's called 'Visual Confirmation on New Posters'. You might also want to change the settings so guests can't start topics or make posts ![]() |

I have problems with bots spamming my phpBB forum as well...usually a dozen attempts a day on average. I wrote a bit of custom PHP code to eliminate 95+% of the spam.
The first step was to remove the Website field in the register page. Spam bots don't actually fill in the information in the blanks but just send a completed registration request, website included. In the usercp_register.php file I added code that checked for a website. If the website field wasn't empty I killed the registration request immediately. Other spambot registration similarities which are now screened for include: dashes in emails from .info domains, ICQ number and timezone = -12, country = rus, etc. All together that blocked about 95-98% of the spam registrations. |
