NOt sure which thread this should be under but...I powered up my computer and it never posted. My monitor is working, I tried using different sticks of RAM, all the fans are on and everything. It just sits there and runs but never posts.

WHen I try to shut it down it won't do it using the power button. I have to unplug it physically.

ANy ideas?

AMD Athlon-64 3200+
MSI K8T NEO-FSR
eVGA Gefore 6800GT 256mb
1 Gig of Mushkin PC3200

THanks,

JW

First thing I'd try is resetting the BIOS. Take out the battery and short out the battery jumper for a few seconds then replace.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS by using the jumper on your motherboard?

I have not done either but will do that now.

Thanks!

If I reset those will I have to go back in later and reconfigure them?

Yup, you'll have to re-configure any bios settings you've changed. I had to do this last night to get my router pc back up and running. I added a wireless card and moved it to a new case, and during post it would freeze. I couldn't even get into the bios. Did a quick bios reset and it booted up.

I tried clearing the CMOS and that didn't work.

I am not sure how to take the battery out - it looks really wedged in there.

Also, I tried looking at the K8T NEO User Guide and I can't find the BIOS jumper on the chart.

THanks,

JW

The jumper should be right next to the battery. Should be called CMOS jumper or something like that. With the battery removed, just move the jumper over to the next position and leave it for a few seconds, then replace the jumper in its original position and replace the battery.

Did that and still nothing. Weird, I just used the comp last night and everything seemed fine.

Then I'm afraid it seems that QuadDamage may well be right...

However, if you don't want to give it up yet, try removing all your addon cards and then removing the motherboard from the case, then carefully replace everything. I've heard similar cases where it's simply the motherboard shorting out on a metal part of the case.
