So I just had ths awesome thing happen. Let me give you the lowdown.
About 6 months ago, my house was robbed and my cell phone taken (amoung other things). I happen to have had cingular service at the time, so after the robbery, I called to cancel my service. I was short of money at the time so I didn't bother buying a new phone, and since my contract wasn't up, I had about 3 months to go. I opted to continuing paying my $50 a month bill, since the early termination fee was about $200. Previously, I had missed (read: was late) 1 or 2 months worth, and the fee's accumulated. This all occured at just about the time my contract was finally up. I get a call from cingular stating that I still owed them money from one month plus a late fee (about $80 total), so I payed it and asked if I was now in neutral standing with my account. I explained to the service woman that I no longer wanted any contract from cingular, and that my account was left in good standing. Here comes 6 months later, and I get a notice from a debt colloctor...I owe Cingular $300 from assessed late fee's that were never payed before. I call cingular, they offer no deal. So I called the collection agency and we set up a payment date to pay in full for Feb. 28th 2007. The nice lady even lets me post-date my check, because at the time, I was about $70 short of the $300 and she EVEN drops the $30 fee accocicated with this outstanding debt. The 28th comes, mail goes out. 4 days later (today) I get a letter from my bank saying that I overdrafted my account by some $600. Not only did they cash my check, they also electronically transfered the funds from my account ON THE 28th. And the best part? I get an overdraft fee everyday the debt isn't paid from my bank ($30 a day or something) AND the Collectors office isn't open on weekends.. So I get to sit around until monday to get this all resolved. To quote Big Worm from Friday, "Playing with my money is like playing with my emotions, Smokey." |

In my experience, you can never let things go if you have problems with an account for any service. Even if you call and tell a company to discontinue or disconnect a service, and the company abliges to do so, it usually doesn't happen, then a few months later you get hit with a huge bill from the company for overages because they never disconnected the service. Really frustrating that some companies do that, a total load of crap. You should tell them you are going to seek legal action against them if they don't clear up the account.
