512tr is a flat-12, not v12. similar sound, but it is a boxer engine. when i was a kid the testarosa seemed so cool. i'd still love to have one. any well tuned sounds good to me, especially when breathing through individual throttle bodies/carbs. Engines with 4 cylinders are boxer engines (because the pistons move like the arms of two boxers). |

Seems it is a F-12 engine and the spec doesn't seem to bad for a fairly heavy engine with a lack of BHP:

They banned that level of Rally car back in the 80's due to the number of spectators and drivers killed at such high speed. The top end cars like the Audi's were pushing 500bhp before the Rally Championship (I think FIA) governing body pulled them! ![]() |

The 512TR is an evolution of the Testarossa. Notice its not called a Testarossa at all, but a 512TR. The Testarossa is slower by a fair bit. Testarossa's were made from 1984 to 1991. The 512TR was a redesigned Testarossa with alot of work under the body, essentially a new car. The 512TR had 35hp more, and was a much better car.

Hate to spoil the party but i dont really like the crackly noise that high pitched BMW V10 makes (its still an awesome engine though). |

Seems it is a F-12 engine and the spec doesn't seem to bad for a fairly heavy engine with a lack of BHP: A proper flat engine will have separate crank pins and hence it will have a different firing order which will mean it will sound different. You'd only use such an arrangement in smaller engines because of the benefits of the firing order and vibration, with a bigger engine having so many extra parts connected to the crank just makes the engine heavier and larger. A 180 degree V12 has the lower center of gravity and shape of a flat engine but the internal workings of a V engine. |

Also, the only reason Exotic V8's sound so much different than American V8's is that most Exotics use a Flat Plane crank vs the usual Cross Plane crank found in American V8's. This has an amazing effect on the tone of the engine.
Personally, I prefer the raunchy, crackly, screaming noise of engines This article explains Crossplane vs Flat plane http://www.autozine.org/technical_sc...smooth4.htm#V8 But the basic thing we know is that flat plane cranks sound absolutely wicked, and that they are not naturally balanced. They make a slight bit more power too. |

Gimme a tuned Countach.
http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...7f008f3867.htm Though that M5 does sound nice its not stock. Check the notes for the video. Headers and an exhaust. Makes a huge difference in noise. This is what my TransAm will sound like at idle. Havne't found a good clip of a guy with a similar setup going at it full bore yet though. http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...da0127c1e9.htm Edit, this is probably what it will sound like, but I'm not sure what size cam is in it, and what exhaust is on the car. http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...e2015e3285.htm |
