Default Why Microsoft Office? Word, Excel, Powerpoint?
Ok I have a question and anyone may give their own opinions or states facts.

I been using Word, Excel, and Powerpoint for over a decade and it been fine. What troubles me is they keep releasing new versions of pretty much the same thing that the older ones can do. But thats not the point of this thread.

I want to know what you guys think the advantages Microsoft has with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are over the other Brands or processing, spread sheets, and presentations.

I know its most commonly used so thats not an answer. I want to know why I should continue buying these updates over buying another brand office suite.

Thanks!!!

I dropped out after Office 97 and using OpenOffice now. Regular updates, good quality, totally free so why should I change back?

It may have something to do with the fact that I use mostly Linux nowadays too. [rofl]

I have been using office since the early nineties so I know the suite pretty well. That's why I see no reason to switch, plus that my employer pays for the software so why use something else?

Check out Office 2007, it looks different and it feels different, I actually quite like it know that I can find stuff.

It's a fairly strong point for a lot of people/corporations though isn't it? I'd side with what BaYegu go with Open Office it might not have a slick stylish looking interface or fancy wizards for the clueless but it does the job well and can view all those files people send you in Office format.

the lack of wizards counts as a plus

Another vote for using OpenOffice. At least post 2.0. At school they have an old 1.1.3 version of OpenOffice, and I really can't use it anymore. I tried exporting as doc files, got garbage out of it. I tried exporting as PDF, got garbage out of it. I never really have problems with the new versions, though, and greatly prefer to use a free package that does a good job rather than pirating software that I don't really even need.

Same here with using open office for multiple years. I've been a user since 1.0 and the only thing that I will admit that I like about MS office is the grammar checker, but then again who doesn't given how lazy most people are.

OpenOffice sometimes has issues opening password protected MS Office files.

It works great otherwise, not really any better or worse than MS Office, but if I have to keep a copy of MS Office installed for that 1% of the time when I have an issue with
OpenOffice, then why bother with OO at all?
