find out the cat's favorite food, find out what that cat LOVE to play... and give that cat a treat every night as long as that cat behaves. otherwise just give it time. i live with cats almost all of my life and had no problem with most of them with an exception. right now i live with max (my cat) and pepper (my bf's cat) ... pepper hates my guts at first and will attack even though shes declawed. but eventually she finally accepts me picking her up and pets her ... sometime she even comes to me for some affection. pretty big improvement compared to when i first met her and all i got was lot lot of hisses and growls. (yes even cats growl lol)
so i did what i knew i could do.... giving her tuna and cat treats and continiously pets her whenever i could (usually when shes sleeping lol) and managed to get her acceptance. she still hates my guts but she is more friendly now lol. |

I used to house sit for a family who had a cat I needed to take care of... the firsttime the cat would revert to its hiding place... but as stated above... feed it and show it love and attention and it will learn to trust and adore you.
Also, if the cat insists on hiding, try hiding from the cat as well when it comes out... that was, the cat will realise it yearns for company and you will find it easier to bond with it. It works. |

Maybe it wants a bath! I'm afraid to say, I laughed like a drain! [rofl] [rofl] But then I've never been a cat person. That poor cat must have been traumatised by that experience. [thumbdown] |

The few times I've gone to someone's house if they have cats, I seem to be a magnet for them. I always end up with one sleeping on my lap doing that annoying "dig the claws in then retract them constantly" thing, and then when I go to stand up, they dig their claws all the way in so I'm standing there with this beast hanging from the front of my jeans like some hip accessory O_o

Cant go to anyone elses house without every pet in the house swarming me
![]() As for the digging their claws in, just lift them of before standing up ![]() |

Really astonished that someone would 'wash' their cat. Cats are very clean animals, wtf would they think it needs to be cleaned
![]() I can't say I have ever had a problem with mine or any of the family pets we have had. My cat will forgive me for being at Uni and now being in Spain, when I came home for xmas I got a look of distain before she relented and came up to me for a stroke. Cat's age also sometimes dicates how it reacts to things, older cats seem to be a little more shy and only do what they are totally comforable with. Younger cats will either be very energetic or very paranoid |

Our cat has only really just come into her own - and we've had her nearly two years.
We took her on from a rescue centre. She had been a stray for a while and we can also only assume she had been hurt by men in the past. She spent the first week in our house hiding in one of a couple of places and then it took weeks for her to spend any real time out in the open. A month and she seemed quite comfortable with my wife but it was taken well over a year for her to trust me. She now loves me to bits, she will lay on my knee on her back fully exposing her belly which is a major sign of trust. You just have to take your time with a cat. Remember you are not adopting the cat, the cat is adopting you. The cat will like you in the end - it just might take a little time. |

seems a little odd. Its not hard to make it like you. It just takes time and after a while if it doesnt work. Just shut off the doors where it tends to hide away from people so it'll be closer to the rooms where people would be then it'll warm up a little. |

If they are little cute meows, then she is probably just saying hello. If it's long meows, then she is probably just a little stressed about living in a strange place. Cats aren't like dogs, they're a heck of a lot smarter and cats will never see you as an owner, they will see you as a friend/companion/etc, so might take a while to come round to you and wanting to spend time with you like everyone said. But just make her as comfortable as possible, is there any blankets from her old home that she used to sleep on or an old bed she had before she moved, if so, let her have access to them so she can have a familiar smell to go to.
