People not researching things gets on your nerves, just like people who can't be bothered to paragraph their posts gets on my nerves.

Many people didn't here don't even benchmark (I don't really anymore), and many people aren't that clue'd up on the internet or computers, this forum has always been good at helping people with very little knowledge, as it's a very open and welcome forum (normally), I say keep things the way they are.

You people who are responding is why I made this post. Think people before you ask thats all I am asking. This isnt a website called PC 101. It was originally made for gamers so we could talk about our scores and stuff. This website is really for people who know about computers not for people who dont know how to use the internet.

The hardware folks are long gone except for maybe a few. Most of the users here post in the General Discussion forum. Such topics include but are not limited to:

"I almost had sex!".

"My GF hates me"

"I like to be gay"

"OMG new tires W111N"

"Post your RL pic because I like to be a stalker"

Now I have no problem with this but it just sad how even before I created an account I came here to read about good technical information. Now it is a bleh pc 101 site....

I agree with you to a point, Vettetech but this is where you go totally wrong:

If your in this forum then you should have some good experience under your belt about pc's and tweaking Windows.
There is absolutely no prerequisite for joining this forum other than the desire to have fun, cooperate and learn. Attitudes like the one embodied by the quoted section above are what drive people away from collaborating online. Nobody should ever be embarrassed to ask questions or try new things, even if they don't know a single thing because otherwise they will never learn.

For example, would you expect someone who has never played a new video game online to make an expert first attempt? No. That person needs to practice and learn. Setting a bar on participation would exclude everyone who is new, and everyone has to be new before they become skilled.

People should seek out answers for themselves and attempt to resolve issues with individual research. That is the absolute best way to go about learning but it doesn't mean that they shouldn't come here for help as well.

lol like I stated above I do not mind it. I actually visit this side of the forum to get a good laugh. Some things posted are pretty good, I like it when someone takes a picture of I think it is pug, the pictures are damn funny.

Who are you to say what this community exists for? As far as I see it, you're a n00b here. Based on my personal experience with you, you tend to have an elitest attitude that is definitely not deserved by your visible/apparent skills; nor do the people you inflict it on deserve to put up with it. This post is a shining example of that. Trying to say that certain people's posts are welcome within this community while others with less knowledge should go elsewhere and look on a search engine. I wonder where you started... if you ever asked any questions on forums/BBS'/etc then you are completely contradicting yourself. As I said before to your snyde little remark via pm that you sent me a week or two ago, if you can't follow our rules (and be a beneficial member of this community, rather than running off members), then get off our community.
Come on guys? Where's the christmas spirit. Even I came back to wish you guys a merry christmas![thumbup]

To the OP, unless your post gets a "sticky", (hell will freeze over first), then this thread will be lost in the deluge of all the others, and every noob coming onto this forum will still be asking about things that they could easily find themselves on a quick Google search.

You are wasting your time, even posting, about it.

Anyway...this forum might have originally been focused on benchmarking, But now it is so much more than that, and there are IMO very few people here that are "hardened" benchmarkers, not as much as there used to be anyways.

I couldn't tell you the last time I benchmarked my PC for points. Must have been when I had a GF3 Ti 200. The only time I use it now-a-days is to make sure systems that I build are properly set up. I stay around more for the tech talk and GD than for benchmark talk.

ill use the 3dmark to test a vid card or processor if i suspect it is having probs, and google searches can be a pain in the proverbial a$$, to sift thru the pr0n sites to find relevant info. imho ppl come here, cause they know that we know what we are doing with pcs, or we know where to send tehm if we cannot help

Well unless your looking up porn. I never got spam from searching something on Google like" How to speed up Windows".
You might not get porn (maybe not right away) but you will get spam, 50,000 peices of software offered that will just **** on you and your PC and then try and charge you for the pleasure, at least here you can be sure (well almost) the software or advice/ideas getting reccomended have been well tested and used by a few of us.

Happy christmas

I think the forums are much better the way they are now. It's fun having a place where not only can you talk about geeky ****, but being able to joke around and talk about numerous amount of other things. Which is why I love both Madonion/Futuremark and Gentoo Forums.

The only problem is that we've lost too many good members here over the years.

To the OP, you really need to find something to better spend your time with if you start crying about how the forum isn't a geek fest.

I think it's nice to able to ask people their opinions on computer related things no matter how trivial they are. Sometimes you'll learn something new. A forum is someplace that fosters discussion. It's not a database. I especially hate it when people scream repost. Ok. So you've seen it before. GTFO. Some people haven't.

Opions yes but not answers of questions you can find out yourself by doing alittle research. All of you are missing my point. All I am saying is that before you post something do some research yourself and you might find the answers. You will never get far in life if everyone is always doing your work.

The Futuremark/MadOnion forums were created to bring together a community.
Futuremark doesnt need the forums to survive, they can do that easily with just the normal support routes, but that isnt what Futuremark is about.

Instead of just being a general tech support, over the years the technology and interests have expanded and the forums have grown with that.

Google can be a good point of start in a lot of cases, although I know people that dont know how to use Google properly to get the answers they seek.
Communities are a good place to get the answers they need quicker too from people with experience.

Google may give an answer to a problem, but it could be one answer to a question that has loads of answers.

The reasons why communities survive with google in harmy could go on and on and on, but Communities sole purpose is for people to get together and discuss - give it a personal feeling etc.

Finally I'll re-state, Futuremark/MadOnion forums were not designed for just technical support to their products - theres the paying route for that.
