Just kill him, so in 15 years when you get out of prison you can visit his grave and laugh about the whole thing.

For every action there is an equal, but opposite, reaction. In other words, your brothers actions should reflect the only possible outcome from this horrific situation.... he owes you cash

If you can't do anything with data recovery programs your only option would be specialized Data Recovery companies but they charge silly money. Get your brother to pay them [xmastongue]

I understand man..

400 is alot of money, what you should being remind of is that the drive doesn't change a bit even waiting for a period of time.. reasonable time that is, so a few months wouldn't change the data on the disk when it is laying around. ( edit- I mean when it is stored in a anti-static bag for example)

so maybe that could help you bring close to 200 euro with some support of relatives and the other 200 by your brother.

I'm just thinking that if you mess with it yourself, you eventually do more harm than how it is now.. I'm not completely sure, but I wouldn't want to burn my fingers on it.

Well thanks to foggy i found a prog that might be doing the job,..
Atm itīs scanning and itīs only at 3 %, which has already taken longer than the other progs to finish scanning.

So i really hope thisīll work.
And if my Brother doesnīt answer the phone in the next 10 minutes iīm gonna give him a visit with a baseball bat !!

I would send it somewhere to have the data salvaged and he would pay for it.

He is 22yrs old...high time he learned some respect for anothers stuff. Especially his own brother.

Don't let him off the hook on this one. He needs to pay whether it comes out of his wallet or ummm....somewhere else.

funny - i just found this thread, and you have already fixed everything.
i cannot even imagine how furios i would be.

anyway.
from what i get here are 2 other options for those who want to know

ultimate boot cd for dos
http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/download.html
ultimate boot cd for windows
http://www.ubcd4win.com/downloads.htm

i think both of the above have freeware undelete and recovery programs

just in case you have more files you want to try to get back.

Why do you save them on CDs and not DVDs?

DVDs made my backups a lot easier and DVD burners are cheap.

That is just disrespectful. Why did he have your disk anyway? Did you say something before that might have led him to believe it was ok to do it?

I have a similar situation with my pickup truck. EVERYONE asks me if they can borrow it. It's my daily driver and I take good care of it, its always clean and shiny. Now I won't let anyone else drive it anymore because they fark it up every time. Last time was the worst, my sister drove it an hour away to pick up a piece of furniture. It was a heavy bookcase that was too big to lay down flat, and I ended up with scratches all over the bedrails. She never mentioned the scratches and she didn't put any gas in it. People try to save some money by borrowing my truck, but they are killing me. It makes me so mad. Nobody ever borrows it again.

Holy **** Golem. That sucks. I can't believe your brother would do that. Talk about a selfish, idiotic prick. No offense.

Best of luck in recovering the data!

EDIT: I see you've recovered most of it. Good. Now beat the **** out of your brother, preferably with an old hard drive you have lying around.
