Well I technically have two computers, one at my flat in Edinburgh and one down here in Hertfordshire.
Well anyway I have to share a couple of bits like the graphics card, I also brought down my hard drives so I had everything to hand. This was the first time I have put the x1900gt into this computer and I put the hard drives in, it was all good untill I started getting crashes, so I checked all the usual suspects, voltages, CPU temperatures, fans spinning. Well i came to check the gpu temps and they were 83C without much 3d load (just the startup screen to eve which does use the GPU). I opened the case to realise that the front fans were pushing air over my hard drives and because the graphics card is so long the air could not rise, while there were some back covers missing from the PCI slots to provide vents the card only had access to hot air (from one seagate 7200.10 and one old and HOT maxtor). The GPU now that I have moved a HDD up hovers in the low 60s at the same screen now ![]() Just a word to the wise for those of you getting new stuff to watch out for this sort of thing. |
