Looks to me like JPEG compression, what's the quality set to, usually there will be settings of low, med high etc...

Typical Nokia photo quality. I.E. shite colour reproduction. My Nokia is the same - comparing it to something taken from a Sharp or Sony phone there's just no comparison.

I don't know how people expect to get good photos from something with a lens the size of a gnats eye no matter how high the resolution.

set to full 3.2 mode, ther eisnt any other settings , theres laods of color settigns etc, had a look around seems its the problem with the carl lens or something and might be a firware fix.

Here are some examples of the N73 camera in operation I found on a review site.

Perhaps the lighting conditions were not great when you took those pictures, phone cameras generally have awful ISO range and need lots of light on the subject matter to get a clean shot.

Those example photos look even worse!

What's with all the horizontal banding? And the colours still don't look nearly as vibrant as they should be.

Yeah, the third one isn't too bad . But generally, the quality is pretty poor.
