Snake owners

Before I start this thread I will first say Har har har to all the possible oncoming possible posts about snakes which will actually be posters making subtle about their reproductive member. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink1.gif

Having said that, I want to buy a snake. Have always wanted one and now I have the chance to get one since I am moving into my own place next weekend. I am looking on the "mini boa" side. Can anyone here point me in a good direction for information?

Thanks!

Indonesian water snake FTW, feed on goldfish, can reach up to 6ft in length, one of the few species that hunt live prey.

Beware, they have up to 192 razor sharp teeth, and bites are bloody[yes]

Hey Omid,
Well i´m a snake owner myself, and if your a beginner i´d suggest not getting a Boa !!
Start of with a King Python (Ball Python)
http://www.zdf.de/ZDFde/img/96/0,1886,2424288,00.jpg http://www.powerpiraten.de/tier_der_...nigspython.jpg

Their rather easy to take care of and not aggressive.
A Boa on the other side can be and to that remember that Boa´s will get BIG ! meaning that you´ll need a big Terrarium thats rather strong.

I can´t help you out with any links (all i know are in German), but Google will help you out http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/smile1.gif

Oh awesome thanks for the info dan! Yea I def don't want anything too loarge lol. That what you show there is exactly what I am looking for.

How much was your innitial startup cost? And how often does the fella eat, you feed him mice like the rest or no?

carreraboyracer 12-16-2006 01:12 AM

I believe they can be fed every week and a half. But they can go up to a month or 2 without eating if need be.

And yes, live mice is their main course.

well i built my Terrariums myself, i think you´ll be in the green with around 80$ for the Terrarium and ~120 $ for the snake.
I feed mine once every week 1-2 dead mice (if you feed them dead food they won´t get aggresive) and the price is like 25 cents pro mouse.

SHUSIATULSE 12-16-2006 01:29 AM

That isn't bad at all [thumbup] Good on the tip for keeping them non-aggressive. I'd like to hold the fella lol. I've been looking for places to buy one online but everywhere is like sold out lol. Looks Like I gotta hit up a local shop. Of course all the colorful ones are $599^

Kingerix 12-16-2006 01:35 AM

Just so you can do a little price check,
here´s where my friends and i have ordered my snakes
http://www.reptilica.de/index.php/ca...iesenschlangen

It´s in German and with €´s but you can say 100€ are about 130 $

SHUSIATULSE 12-16-2006 01:46 AM

Yea been looking around and there are some beautiful snakes at that price. I can't wait :D Just a week to go! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/excited1.gif

yeah, we used to have problems with one of our Pythons as well,
then we used a old (but really gross trick) You take a razor/scalpel and cut the scull of the mouse open (so the brain is also cut and visible) for most snakes, they just cant resist.
Had to do it 2-3 weeks and after that everything was fine again.

we used to just dip em in chicken broth.i always hated feeding time..i miss owning snakes

Patabeamn 12-16-2006 03:29 AM

At the risk of being flamed, do you think a snake kept in a glass box getting fed at predictable times every day will be a happy animal?

SHUSIATULSE 12-16-2006 03:32 AM

Nope, which is why I plan to have him out often. I'll let him play with my cats....... http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif
