Well, you'll soon quit smoking when a large lump appears on your neck and your doctor tells you he's 70% sure its cancer!

That was 4 weeks ago, and I've just been given the all clear, still **** me up enough to wanna quit this time, forever!
My ex was just dx with tongue cancer a few weeks ago. He was a heavy drinker and heavy smoker (nonfilters) for years. Its right at the base of his tongue. He refused having his voicebox removed so he just started chemo and radiation. They give him a 50/50 chance but he has already lost 50lbs and they put in a feeding tube to help him get enough calories. We will wait and see I guess.

Oddly, his doc said the drinking was more at fault than the smoking but it still gives me encouragement to stay quit on the cigs.

Relaxation? I like to read, play mindless games or roadtrip. I used to paint..I would kinda like to pick that up again.

The best thing for me when I quit smoking was pretend smoking.. I know it sounds stupid but it works. Just put your hands up to your mouth like your holding a ciggie and inhale just as you would if you were smoking. Make sure noone else is around though cuz you'll look kinda dumb while doing it.

I swear this works as you get a bunch of nice deep breaths in a row that will calm the anxiety and you get the sensation of bringing something up to your mouth. It's the oral fixation that a lot of people have trouble getting over when they stop smoking. Just try it for a while, It's worth a shot anyways. It's what I did when I quit 8 months ago and I haven't had a ciggie since and I smoked a pack a day for almost 10 years.

Well the lump was hard and about the size of a couple of pea's and was in one of my lymph nodes in my neck, surrounded by a golf ball sized sac of fluid.
Its now gone down and I can no longer feel the lump, its possible it was just an nasty infection, but I figured it was something worse cos I've been suffering from extreme tiredness too for the last few months.
At least my chest xrays were clear, so I have'nt got lung cancer at least and my blood tests were pretty much clear too.
My wife still smokes and I really have'nt thought much about restarting smoking, since I quit, I'm hoping she'll give up too, soon, since part of the reason for both of us quitting in the past was because we've been trying for a kid for the last few years and the docs have said that giving up smoking would increase our chances.
So I've just gotta get fit again now after all those years of abusing my body through smoking and lack of exercise.
