Yeh! well a zero could still out turn a tom cat!
THe gattling gun which the f-14 uses is supposed to shoot down supersonic jets let alone ww2 airplanes. Just a straff and everything's finished. As far as I remember that's what hapened, they just flew fast and really close to the zeroes to scare them away, but when the zeroes opened fire, they straffed them with their guns.

Full. Metal. Jacket.
I thought about that, but it's not really a full-blown war movie... and I already had 2 'Nam movies on the list . It's pretty hard to make a patriotic movie about Vietnam, will probably be the same with Iraq. Well, 'we were soldiers' tried but man that sucked.

Default my god what a shat film...
just finished watching a really pants film about... Wait for it....

A modern American Aircraft carrier full of tomcats, intruders and all manner of high tech aircraft And weaponry some how manages the end up just off of pearl harbour intime to save american fleet from the japanese suprise attack on it in the 40's.

ROFLS. it was pants but I watched in Awe as the plot unrolled badly...

if you want to see this film its called.

the Final Count down.

also quite frankly I would have found that film as an Insult to those who died because of the outragous plot just to make a few bob from the sheer loss of life.

and to make it worse there was no "dedicated to the memory of those lost" at the end.

I watched this some time ago at about 1:00am, I enjoyed it but my standards are lowered at that time of night.

Can't remember it being quite that bad.

If Japan hadn't attacked Pearl Harbor, the US wouldn't have entered the war, and it would have taken many more years for the allies to win and millions more lives (though because of Russia it still would have happened). It's one of those 'does the end justify the means' things. Therefore the entire concept of that film is absolute ****.

I think it was a poor attempt of a patriotic film.

Any war movie coming out Hollywood generally is.

(yes I'm looking at YOU Speilburg)

Edit- Actually that is a bit of a broad statement as there are some fantastic films that aren't in the least patriotic, like Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and Thin Red Line.

I'm sure that film was pretty old, I certainly remember a film with that storyline and defiantely remember tomcats fighting zero's.

Which is a bit silly, cos missilles tend to lock on to heat sources, and a tomcat flying at a speed to not overshoot a zero would more than likely stall and fall outta the sky!

Just had a look on google, 1980 the film came out, no wonder you thought it was cheesy, Most of the people here were but a twinkle in their daddies eye, back then, and I was 12 yrs old and more than likely loved the film to bits. [rofl]

Magnificent! The vocalist was obviously opera-trained...

I saw the Final Countdown movie, but don't remember it being THAT bad. Of course, I was a kid when I saw it back in the early 80's...

I liked that movie when I saw it 20 years ago.

They decided to go back through the vortex rather than stopping the Pearl Harbor attack, knowing that stopping it would be worse that letting it happen.

Now all you need to do is watch the Philadelphia Experiment 2 where they send a stealth fighter back to 1938 and it winds up in Nazi Germany. It's even loaded with a nuke. The Germans figure otu how to fly it and they are going to fly to Washington DC and nuke it into oblivion.
