At 1600x1200 or higher with loads of AA and AF the FX-60 wont be any slower than even the highest overclocked 6600. This whole CPU thing is overrated anyway when it comes to high resolutions. And I doubt he will game @ 1280x1024 with this setup.

Of course the E6600 would be faster, but still, no big deal, his AMD will do fine.

Looks sweet, but you're paying a colossal amount of money for that CPU. I'd easily pocket myself alot of money by getting the Core 2 Duo E6600 instead.

Personally i'd stick with one card as well, but up to you of course.

WTF. 8800 is cpu limited with a kentsfield at 4.5ghz...

What Horrorwood said.

SLI 8800 GTX is sooo cpu limited its not funny. Kentsfield at well into the 4ghz range and no performance increase from overclocking the cards only from more cpu mhz!

Well whatever. Just like the 6800Ultra was so CPU limited by P4s at the time. Whenever a new gfx generation is released people whine about CPU limitations... even though the difference is never so big that it actually hurts the gameplay. His FX-60 IS good enough for any game out there.

Forget all the arguing!
To the OP, your buying an AM2 board, yet your gonna stick a 939 cpu into it.

Er! not gonna happen, even on your best day.

Buy one of the bundle C2D 6600 deals and overclock it, to beyond 3GHz.

$800+ for an FX60 is crazy, when a C2D 6600 clocked to the same speed (2.6ghz) will kill it.

Just go for the best C2D cpu, board and DDR2 ram, clock it beyond 3GHz and you'll be better than any X2 going.

Some of the guys at Xtremesystems had 8800gtx's early, and a single GTX still responded at stock clocks to the kentsfield overclocks. They didn't do much games testing but 3DMark06 scores still went up with just CPU overclocks.

On 3DMark06 (which was as gpu bound as it came) with Kentfield at 2.66ghz and 8800GTX at stock you were looking at around 8k, you needed to take the kentsfield to 3.5ghz to break 11k with no gpu overclock. Thats why I said a FX60 was wasted on SLI GTX, an overclocked Core 2 quad isn't enough to feed it. I can't think of another card were a CPU overclock will gain you over 3K on 06. And when you overclock the cards with SLI its even worse, its still CPU bound at 4.5ghz.

lol well noticed! Well at least it could be returned easier and changed for Core2Duo.

Two questions, does 3dmark actually utilise quad core?,and how can some people be so quick to jump on the "8800's are bottlenecked with quad core systems" bandwagon when there's not really any to beleive it to be true yet.

I'm sure the score went up with clockspeed, but I'm pretty sure nothing was tested that makes anything more than superficial use of a quad core cpu yet and that this conclusion is extremely premature.
