I thought that they'd want to beat the Zune to market and release the video iPod early. That would explain the recent price drops on the 5.5g.

Price drops?

Theyre still 189 and 259 here for the 30 and 80gb respectively.

I dont think the Zune poses a major problem for the ipod atall, it's bigger, heavier, apparently less battery life, the screen is a bit larger iirc? but the wifi thing is useless.

Plus the ipod is too sexy, user friendly and popular for the zune to compete if Im being honest.

Oh I thought the price had dropped? I was poking around on Amazon earlier and they had the 30gig @ £169.

The Zune will probably be dead before it even hits the shelves.

Sorry my mistake, the 5G ones are 169 on amazon, the 5.5g ones are 175 on amazon, they must just be offering them cheaper because theyre amazon, apple sitll have them at 189.

15 quid cheaper is always nice

There were some rumours flying around the office about it and also a release on engadget.com or something about it.

It doesn't appear to be on any of the main rumor sites, which makes me think that if this is true, then Apple will only be updated the laptops tomorrow (from CoreDuo to Core2Duo). Since the true video iPod will be released at a big press event, which there will be a lot of advanced notice for.

Also about the true video iPod, it won't be replacing the current models, it will just be a new highend model. When Apple released the iPod photo, it was released as a highend model. You could still buy the B&W 4G iPod (although they were cheaper).

[rofl] [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

That's from Oct. 2005. Back when the iPod with video (which already exists) was just a rumor.

There are some rumors going around about another Apple event before years end but I really hope to god it's not a new update to the iPod and I really hope it's not this soon. iPod's have been out for less then a full month and no way on Earth could I afford to upgrade to the new ones even if I was able to sell mine with it's case for like $200. A middle to late January release is still a very short amount of time but also just getting long enough for buyers to recover and want to snatch up another new iPod. I totally hope MacBook / Pro's get updated but I really hope the iPod update is at least two or three months off. [yes]
