Morning – Senator Barack Obama’s grandmother, a key figure in his life who helped raise him throughout his teen-age decades, died in Hawaii on Monday. Mr. Obama, who left the presidential campaign path late last month to go to Honolulu to bid her goodbye, declared the death in a introduced by his spokesman upon landing here this morning. Her death comes 1 day afraid of Election Day. “It is with great disappointment that we declare that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died quietly after a fight with cancer,” Mr. Obama said in a record. “She was the foundation of our family, and a lady of remarkable achievement, power, and humility. She was the one who encouraged and permitted us to simply take chances.” Madelyn Dunham, who made 86 on Oct. 26, was not able to go see her son on the campaign trail. Obama together with his cousin, Maya Soetoro-Ng, who has been at Mrs. Dunham’s part while Mr. Obama has been campaigning for president. “Our family really wants to thank all those who sent hopes, cards, well-wishes, and plants in this difficult time. It introduced our grandmother and people good comfort,” Mr. Obama said in the record. “Our grandmother was a person, and we shall respect her want a little private service to be kept at a later date.”
