It might be another unfun thread by MrFun, but that's the actual political agenda of Israeli ultra-orthodox Jews.

Second, there is no substantial political movement that calls for biblical law to form the law of the United States. The suggestion is simply unfounded in fact. Name one such movement and prove me wrong.
Uh, yes there is; there's a movement among Christian fundamentalists to legislate laws based on the Bible in regards to gay people and abortion.

I was applying the same "reasoning" to other Bible passages that these Christian fundamentalists are conveniently ignoring.

Elok's right, opposing abortion isn't in the Bible, it's progress towards a less barbaric future.

There's some dude wielding a terrible haircut on Youtube who posted a bunch of videos about how only Catholics should be allowed to vote, but I doubt that few people besides Ben Kenobi take the guy seriously

Yes, and no one likes them, least of all most Israelis. They get a couple seats in the parliament who vote with whoever will send them the most government money. That's it.

I agree with his contempt for democracy. I should be the absolute ruler of the entire world. I promise to pour LSD into the water supply, add firearms training to the grade school curricula, and prohibit MrFun from reposting decade old memes that we've all seen a million times.

Don't they also get massive amount of welfare payments from the rest of Israel to sit around and "study" (as you mentioned government money)? So someone is scared of them for some reason.

And MrFun, the Bible never mentions abortion. It certainly never states a proscription of it, nor a penalty for it. There is a very old tradition of Christian opposition to abortion, but it's not biblical per se.
Okay, forget abortion then, since this about legislating laws based on the Bible. Why do Christian fundamentalists only pick passages they think are anti-gay, but ignore all other moral issues that I have in the OP?

Maybe it's because of this thread.

I agree, it is a problem.

Do you think there are many christian fundamentalists (on apolyton) you are reaching with this message?

Do you think your combative presentation is going to reach any who are here?

VJ, actually that's not correct. You cannot understand the books seperately like that. You have to read the whole Bible and understand it in context.

Oh and footballs haven't been made from pig's bladders for several decades.
But the fact is, the Bible says lots of stupid sh*t. Perhaps some good sh*t. But it demonstrates that it is not an infallible text and should be relegated to nothing more than a historic document and not a basis for living your life or running a society.

Well, because they are smart about how to get out of service. IDF allows for deferment for serving if in Yeshiva (kinda like seminary training) and then you are exempt if married. Most ultra-Orthodox marry young and they are usually in Yeshiva during that time.

Not defending slavery, but the Bible does not present slavery being a good thing (even in the OT). The Bible also describes things such as the year of jubilee at which point all land returned to the family that originally owned it (this was the major source of wealth, I think) and all slaves were freed. Additionally, there was the sabbath years where hebrew slaves were freed.

JM
I thought in the Bible, God said that the Jews can have foreigners for slaves?

I'm a spiritual Christian. I'm not dogmatically religious.
So how do you decide what God wants you to do? Do you ask your priest/pastor/minister/whatever or something...?
