there's evidence of trans-Atlantic contacts going back 7500 years, its quite possible, even likely people were using the ice sheet to hug the "coastline" between Greenland, Iceland and Britain and when the ice melted making the trip much more hazardous, memories of the contacts with the new world faded

I have a native american friend. He's a Potawatomi, and I call him an injun all the time. In fact, when he drinks, we make sure to remind him that firewater is bad for injun.
Why would you even tell anyone this?

Where I live people generally use the word Indian for the indigenous people of the Americas, and when they want to refer to someone as being from India they say Indian from India (which is retarded) or Hindu, as if Muslim or Christian or Buddhist/Jainist/Atheist Indians did not exist.

Indians

Indians from India

I would prefer it if we all would use Amerindian for the indigenous people of the Americas, and Indian for people form India.
But Amerindian sounds like something from a 1936 German Physical Anthropology book.

Amerindians are closest genetically to the siberian tribes of north east asia.

It makes more sense to call the ones of the Americas West Indians, and let Indians be nothing more than Indians.

No. We must dehumanize them like every other ethnic group and nationality by arbitrarily labeling them.

It's just like a Croatian to say something like that.

okay

My uncle Steve (great uncle on croat side) moved to Idaho. He sent us a letter saying how nice his neighbors are. It turns out, he lives next to some Aryan Nation militia people.

that summarizes Croats for you

post it this time *******

Whenever someone starts talking about Indians, I have to ask them, "Are we talking about the people who live in India, or are we talking about Native Americans?"

Aboriginals or Aboriginal Indians are Aboriginals/Indigenous/Natives.
Indians are the ones from India.

This isn't hard.
You should just accept that your language is defective. We make the distinction in Swedish with no problem.

indian = Indian (Aboriginal) from America
indier = Indian from India
