Precisely, they want the best and brightest to be teachers here. But quite frankly, the pay is nowhere near enough...I earn the same amount as the top of a headteacher's scale here...with nowhere near the hassle. So no thanks.

The 'best and brightest' unfortuantly means those with doctorates and 1st class degrees in the mind of Gove etc. Not necessarily those best suited for teaching in a crap school in Newcastle-upon-Tyne as being academically able grants you very few of the skills you'll need in such places.

Unlike Philly and Al, I left Hull and have no intention of returning there. I am sure Philadelphia has draws in comparison though.
