Where are the men and women of compelling VISION? I humbly submit: a group of leaders should gather to put on a NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR 2014 at -- where else? -- Flushing Meadow Corona Park.

50th anniversary of the 64/65 and...

75th anniversary of the 39/40

All great things start with an idea. And so, here it is.
Here's some background info:

Here's the next one, in Japan: http://www-1.expo2005.or.jp/en/index.html

I attended the '82 Knoxville & '84 Louisiana World's Fairs. Awesome experience for a kid. Glad I was able to be there to see them!

The Bureau of International Expositions is in charge of this event, and SH*T, they are the French... Hopefully, they'll see beyond the bad feelings between our countries by 'oh - fourteen'. Wishful thinking? Perhaps if we whip out their donation of Lady Liberty on 'em? :-)

Pretty dramatic flash intro for their website.. of course it IS the "World's Fair" so.... : http://www.bie-paris.org

The 1964/65 Fair, as many here will know, was not an officially sanctioned event; however, the show went on and there are people who fondly remember it. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend that fair, but certainly would make it a point to visit the 2014 NYWF.

If this is going to happen, it will take somebody "big" to get the ball rolling. Perhaps a starter committee called together by the Mayor, the Governor, or others such as Donald Trump, Rudy Juiliani, etc. would be sufficient.

Think about it. By 2014, most if not all of the WTC will be rebuilt, and that would be a fine time to celebrate the new New York with a world-class 2014 World's Fair. If we spread the idea, maybe it will "take" with just the right person with the connections to actually make it a go.

OOF, I don't see the good 'ole USA listed as a "member state" of the BIE either... Things that make you go, "hmmmm".... Wonder how much they charge to be a part of the club?

Bob, are you saying you want to create the Worlds Fair, without the originator as the sanctioning body, or do you wish to have the US open up discussions/negotiations w. the BIE?

Looks like the Knoxville, TN peeps would be the one's to begin talks with, as they are still a part of the AVE, to quote from the BIE website:

Representatives from the EXPO-cities Hannover, Lisboa, Sevilla, Aichi, Montreal and Vancouver signed a declaration on October 29 th 2000 in Hannover announcing the establishment of an “Association of Cities and Regions Hosting an International Exhibition“, with the aim of creating a close co-operation between former ad future EXPO-cities.

Here's the link, seems to be the most logical place to start:
