Guy gets arrested for griefing.

LONDON (AP) — A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of posting malicious Twitter messages directed at British Olympic diver Tom Daley, U.K. police said Tuesday.

Daley's father died of brain cancer a year ago and the 18-year-old Olympian had hoped to win a medal "for myself and my dad." But he finished fourth on Monday, out of medal contention, in the 10-meter synchronized platform competition with teammate Pete Waterfield.

Afterward, Daley tweeted a message saying "After giving it my all...you get idiots sending me this..." and retweeted a message from user (at)Rileyy69 which said: "You let your dad down i hope you know that."

Dorset Police said early Tuesday that a 17-year-old man was arrested "on suspicion of malicious communications" in relation to Twitter threats made against Daley.

Police said the man was detained at a guest house in the southwestern coastal town of Weymouth in the early hours of the morning, and is currently helping police with their inquiries.

In Britain, tweeting messages considered menacing, offensive or indecent can lead to prosecution. It was such a predictable grief. Ridicule and shame the guy, but arrest? Really? Arrest for that? That is just pure feelings police.

You could see that comment/message coming a mile away. An arrest for that? http://messenger.msn.com/MMM2006-04-.../omg_smile.gifhttp://messenger.msn.com/MMM2006-04-...humbs_down.gif

Being an insensitive dick can't be made illegal. Otherwise the police will have to arrest roughly 80% of the UK population.

Before anyone kicks off you should read his tweets.. it's not quite as simple as him saying something about a dead dad. There's threats of shooting, burning down houses and general twattery. He's a little **** and deservers whatever happens.

threats are a different story altogether. Being a loud mouthed ******* is fine, but when you start threatening people then I've no issue with the law being involved.

Shocker - people on FM don't bother learning the full story before casting aspersions. He wasn't arrested for this comment, he was arrested for threatening to drown the guy.

They should have roaming deaths squads, instead of a legal system

One of the advantages of not having a written constitution, is that people who just generally make life miserable for others, can be thrown in a dungeon.

Well there is the European commission of human rights, that sometimes comes rushing to the aid of the aggressor

I could never live in a country like that. When being a troll becomes a crime you know you've lost some fundamental freedoms.

well if these people haven't warranted the abuse then yeah its wrong.

people give others way to much mouth and offensive abuse in the tangible real life, and its spilling over from the internet.
