Default Rant time!! Slow internet
Since Tue. of this week, my internet during the day is SLOOOOOOWWWWW. At night, when I get home from work? No problem at all, back to normal. I currently have Comcast's 25mb connection. I ran the speedtest and I was getting a whopping .25mb download . So I turned off my wireless, power cycled the modem and ran it again. .25

I even reset the router and again .25. So I figured it must have been an issue on comcast's end, so I called them. They told me they can schedule a visit, but it will cost money for the tech to come out... I refused and after getting nowhere I hung up ended handed. I'm moving out in about 3 weeks, so it's kind of moot to pay for them to come "check" it out, as i'll be canceling soon. The modem is only 2 years old, and it's back to normal speeds at night so I don't think it's an issue with the modem.

But seriously 2 years of living here and i'v never had an issue with slow speeds, and since Comcast claims they have no idea why it's slow, but offer to charge me to have someone come out?

Not having capable net speeds or no internet at all is hard to deal with

What do I do?!

Oh wow, your ISP actually charges you for tech visits? No good.

I would just phone and say the modem is dead and needs to be replaced and tell them that you are a computer tech or got it checked by a computer tech. I assume the property of the modem is comcast as if you were to ever cancel your Internet you'd have to ship it back to them, so why they would charge for an exchange is beyond me.

Comcast used to have a huge call center out here in 'Peg city, so I know the people you talk to on the phone may not even be in the same country as you.

Maybe the trunk you are on is getting too much traffic at that time of the day. Maybe another trunk is down and/or being worked on, so traffic is being routed through a main line that you are using?

Something a long those lines?

Where my dad lives, he used to have Comcast and during peak times it would be slower than dialup. Very annoying.

Could also be a cable gone bad somewhere. My friend on Charter was getting slow internet speeds, and they came out and replaced the line between the road and the house. Fixed his issue and now his speeds are greater than advertised.

If you let them know you plan on leaving them it might help influence them to send a tech out, free of charge, like a normal company.

The fact that they want to charge you to send someone out to figure out why you aren't getting what you are paying for, is ridiculous.
