FM is doing a great job with the news posts - lots of relevant things and its a great resource.
i think news articles would get more discussion if they were posted in the relevant section of the forum (such as GPU board), and just listed in "news". it could be easily done automatically - if a mod / admin wants to make a news post, the forums software could be altered so the mod can choose the category and also tick "also list in news". i think people would be more inclined to discuss it that way. also, it would discourage trolling - if a mod / admin makes a post, and it gets trolled, the person trolling is going to get bitch slapped down quickly as the mod / admin will see it as thread crapping. dumping all the news in the relevant forum sections would be cool as you could go to a board, and be guaranteed there would be something relevant and interesting. and it would not detract from news as you could still see the listing, exactly as before. the mods and admin are doing a good job for the community by finding this stuff, but its underappreciated where it is. Whilst I am here though going to take a look around, i used to post here everyday a couple of years ago. i still do post a lot, but i don't start threads anymore in any board except GD or classifieds. there are trolls afoot, and really smug posters. |

Been coming here since 2001 or so but member in 2003. The one thing I see now is so many threads that have nothing to do with pc's and tech stuff. Front page talking about dentists, photography, drones over the USA, cars, tv programs, etc etc.
This is a website for pc's and gaming but it has changed into something else. I am starting to go to other forums now to look into pc stuff but I still come here also. |

I support changing it from "yougamers" to "yg", I bet you would see the numbers jump. |

When the forums were new each new version of 3DMark would be a massive leap graphically over the previous version, now they seem to be tiny steps (3DMark 09 being a step backwards infact), not to mention each year graphics cards would almost double in performance. It was exciting times back then. Now I play most games on my Xbox and haven't seen a need to upgrade my PC in 2-3 years

I used to come here a lot back in the P4 vs A64 days. It was fun to see the rivalry going then. Now I see Intel well-ahead and the Intel vs AMD rivalry got a lot less interesting. At the same time, like others mentioned, CPU power is to the point where I have no desire to overclock. Back when I had a Celeron 800, I needed all the over-clocked power I could get. But now, I have ample cycles for nearly everything I do.
I can't actually remember the last time I ran a 3dmark benchmark. It's been years. I used to run 3dmark 2001 a ton but very little after that. |

Well, I still come here regularly even though there isn't that much activity. All the familiar names here just give me that fuzzy feeling like being with my family. I feel at home here. Even the arguments here sound like those had with your siblings.
This is probably my #1 internet community, despite me being on the sides most times. [xmascool] |

The orwellian control exercised from some of the moderation team (the weasely looking one and the power hungry e-penis measuring one) really doesn't help. ![]() The moderation going on now is very mild compared to before. However, back 10 years ago, the sheer volume of traffic (with roughly as many mods as today) made moderating pretty tough. |

I've been here since 3dmark99 and now this place is mostly a whinefest, or someone saying someone else is dumb because they dont share the same opinion, in 2 words there isnt much fun in coming here
and seeing all the negativity. Also from my point of view there is absolutely zero moderation done, so there. I dont think FM (the business) is helping keep things pleasant. |

I'd agree there's too much whining and bickering going on, but honestly I think the biggest factor is that game development has stagnated thank to consoles. Nothing is really pushing PC tech to advance and as such people aren't upgrading as often as they were, or benchmarking/overclocking like the old days.
Hell, I'm still running a radeon 5870 and the performance difference going from a Phenom 2 965 to a Core i5 2500k was so tiny in actual games that I think it was a waste of money. |
