From what some of the older users have told me, things haven't really changed that much. Sounds like some of you may be a tad delusional. Speaking of, anyone remember the advertising debacle over this? |

Things have changed since mr. natural and that ilk of mad onion roamed these boards for sure. Mad Onion wasnt always so... stringent. Around 2003 (when my original account was banned...) the forums became much more strict. |

Around 2003 (when my original account was banned...) the forums became much more strict. I thought you may have been referring to the banner advertising that was a bit of a heated topic for a while - but as I had bought some FM/MO benching suites which disabled it on registration, it wasn't an issue for me either ![]() I'd say things have definitely changed s while things would often get heated back in the day, it was honest arguements, rather than the loser resorting to insults, etc, that would have meritted a stand-down ban for a week or two. Some of the older guys would remember getting infringements, or bans, for things that seem to be ignored now. |

10 years for me in about a month
![]() Although I've been only 'active' for around six or I suppose seven of them. Has this place changed? Yes, although when you're on a site for long time it'll always feel as though it's changed somewhere down that line... Re-brands often don't help. This place is good to drop into now and again, just watch out for the trolls. [shocked] ![]() |

From what some of the older users have told me, things haven't really changed that much. Sounds like some of you may be a tad delusional. As far as the people go, I think what's changed most is the intelligence of the trolls. Many people have come and gone, both good and bad, but a couple of years ago trolling was much simpler. Someone would spout his ridiculous opinions as fact, would make fun of other members, would get into a swearing match and end up banned. The trolls have learned not to just call names, not to state their personal opinions as loudly, they've become much more subtle. They're still forum assholes, they still use foul language and they're grumpy as heck, throwing their arms up in the air or throwing a fit over the next big port, but at least they use whole sentences now. This has made the resident trolls much more acceptable as part of the community - a negative voice to tome down what used to be the extreme hyperbole of hype machines we used to have (Unreal 2, anyone?). In time, the forum trolls have become more mellow, have begun adding reasonable thoughts to their rage posts, and start forming an acceptable opinion rather than an extreme one. They might just turn out fine. ![]() |
