Default Rambus sue and win yet another patent case - This time Broadcomm
This company is a sham, they only survive by suing continously for patent infringment....Hell do they actually design or make anything nowadays?

In other news
RAMBUS Settles $10.85million lawsuit out of court

Seems like they weren't that sure of winning that one.
But IMO, what they're doing is despicable. A shame that it's come to this, with companies surviving solely on patent infringement lawsuits.

It's a pity they can't change the law so these patent companies have to have released a product in the last 5 years or at least have a functioning prototype for it to be valid.

While I am sure that would mean you get a lot of companies developing stupid products that never make it to market, it will make it harder for these companies to exist as they would have to employ people to actually make the products (and not just lawyers).

That would be so much better.

I'm tired of reading patents which are basically based on a scribbled pencil design and no hardware.

It was just a few months ago that Rambus lost a multi-billion dollar lawsuit. Their stock tanked on it. Went from $18 to $7 in a single trading day.
Even with all this other news since then, their stock is up a little bit. Might actually be a great time to buy Rambus at such low prices. Looking at their 10 year chart, they have no where else to go but up.

All companies do this though. Nothing new. If Rambus really had anything people wanted or cared about, someone would buy them up, especially now with cheap stock, and the new owners would continue to sue everyone who does not have rights to their new patents.
Preventing a lawsuit is as easy as purchasing rights to use the patent.

So who are really the evil people here?
People stealing Rambus' ideas or Rambus surviving off of lawsuits?
Should be upset with the government rather than Rambus as Rambus is only doing what is within their rights. If the patent system was changed up to the way you'd like it to be, Rambus more than likely would not longer have the rights that they are currently exercising.

Rambus does have product though. Look at their history. DRAM had momentum, supported by Intel in teh 90's. A lot of P4 machines use Rambus memory. The N64, PS2 and PS3 have rambus memory. Now they have recently come out with XDR2 memory.
Maybe the PS4 will go with Rambus again.

I'm down for Rambus staying around, would be nice though if they could get a good PR team together to sell their product hard core. Would be nice to have another player in the memory game that wasn't on the sidelines calling foul.

or patents in information technology becoming invalid in 5 years, considering the speed of development this would make sense

Yes the PS3 uses XDR, but even the design for XDR2 is now pretty old. Rambus are at the mercy of fabricators as all they have is the design ability. Im not sure who actually made XDR a reality for them but if i had to guess i would say sony. As far as i know XDR2 has only recently been picked up for manufacturing even though it was announced years ago

On a side note there only way of generating revenue is not from suing everyone. they license their patents to others. when they feel others have used or anything resembling anyone of their patents they go after them aggressively. Im not saying its ok or anything as even some of their claims have seemed a bit stretched
