Default Speeding - what would happen to you if ...
Here, you would certainly lose your license for years. Possibly get even get put in jail for dangerous driving (not sure about the chance of jail though).

Here it would be "Racing".

7-day vehicle impound
$2 000 - $10 000 fine
max 2 - year licence suspension
max 6 months jail
6 Demerit points

191 kph over would attract the high end of those penalties.

Just telling you what the law calls it Sloww. 1 vehicle can "race".

It's a new offence (this would formerly have been covered by speeding, careless driving, or dangerous driving).

You have a charge called "competition for speed"?

Kudos on being different.

So you can't race the clock or race the weather in Texas? Has to be two to be considered a race? Pretty narrow definition.

That would probably be speeding. Competition implies another individual is involved. We wouldn't call it competition for speed if a person was trying to whirl around in an attempt to create more g-force than a blender either.
You can compete against many things Sloww, not just other humans.

GEEZ! You said what it was called in Canada and I told you what it was called here, and the stipulations for the charge. How can you and ScroungeCat argue with me about it?
I guess you can, but you can't win.

Sorry Sloww but i Believe you are incorrect.

"Racing" in Texas can be done by a single vehicle according to Sec. 525.420 of the Transportation Code.

http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.u...ighlightType=1

Drag racing (2 or more) falls under the next section.

I thought it was the police that enforced it, but it doesn't sound like that.
If its a crime its a crime. Off duty cops don't get a pass. Just as if they are impaired, they should be charged and I applaud their fellow cops for doing it.

The impound problem arises as the law targets the owner of the vehicle (another problem) and doesn't exempt public vehicles.

Apart from an automatic ban and possible charges for reckless and dangerous driving, you'd have to attend a 'speed awareness course' here.
Scary films? Mutilated crash survivors to scare you strait?

Fully agree - police should be the first to report crimes amongst own rank. Though, I hadn't expect them to go to this extreme. Your RCMP's must be well trained.

I live in the developed part of the country. Ontario has its own police force. The RCMP have to beat people to death elsewhere in the country.

Ok. That makes sense. Annoying, yes, but it could be worse. There are some nutcases here that want to make the owner responsible for speeding if a speed trap can't identify the driver
The owner here can be responsible for the fine amount on a photo-radar speed charge (traced through plate number) but no demerit points apply. A speed charge laid by officer is the only one that can carry demerits and can only apply to the driver (fine and points). For this reason the photo radar is rightly viewed as a cash grab.
