and that is vs England, probably the worst NHS in the developed world... "third world leader" US should pick on Japan, France or Germany for comparison stats...
Despite the greater use of health care technology in the US, Americans receive less preventive health care than their English counterparts. less than English counterparts, and comparing to Europe English preventative health care is abysmal. the last one stands... and a loooooong way to go "Whilst in some areas our outcomes may be favourable compared with those in the US, we are still clear that we have a long way to go before we achieve outcomes comparable with the best performing health systems. US on the other hand = third world, if you are rich it's great, if you are not, your dead. enough said |

Al, you are more dense than usual. The american way of life may be to eat more than you need, but that isn't because you want to become fat, just that you want to eat unnecessary. |

I think Blacky's trying to say that some people are fat as a byproduct of eating too much junk. They are not choosing to be fat, the fatness is a consequence of the eating habits. (Or maybe I am more dense than usual and have misunderstood the above post). Anyway I agree with Blackcat.
Some people are fat because of some sort of genetics thingy. (Umh, yeah, I'm not a geneticist). |

So we remove personal responsibility with regards to one's eating habits? (Umh, reminds of a very obese girl I once met who was complaining about being overweight. She was eating a large cream bun, in a gorging and gormandising manner, as she was voicing her complaints). |

Please distinguish between choices and the consequences of those choices and you will see what I mean.
Using your example, if you choose to punch a cop the consequences are that you are likely to thrown in the clink and may get a thump with the nightstick. You didn't choose the thump or the jailhouse but you did choose a decision with those likely consequences. The decision to thump the copper is the key point. Why did you do that? The jailing is then not your decision. There are a whole range of reasons why people might eat in a way that leads to obesity. Not necessarily all due to weakness of will or stupidity or ignorance. |
