Default I can't stand the bullshit about 'Shari'a' anymore
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...5875-22904547/

BANNED hardline group the Muslim Brotherhood was yesterday in talks with crisis-torn Egypt’s government – and is ready to impose strict Islamic laws.

Britain and the US already fears the Islamist political movement is poised to seize power after President Mubarak said he would end his 30-year rule by not seeking re-election in September.

And in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mirror, the Muslim Brotherhood’s deputy said Sharia – which allows oppression of women and stoning of adulterers – could be introduced “if it is the will of the people”.

possibility of stoning makes it popular

I know.

I just can't stand it anymore. You can't listen to more than 4 minutes of talk radio without an allusion to this being made.

The Democrats like their "bastards" as well.

To a non-American there really is little difference between parties on that issue.

The new "angry" message icon is a joke. The classic smiley is much better

Itjihad is generally frowned upon in major circles Boris.

Although it has had minor gains the last century and a half.
IT Jihad? Is that like the Butlerian Jihad, or just something that happens at alqaeda.com?

That's actually funny when it comes from an american - lots of your legislation is religious based.
No. What's funny is it comes from HC... you know, the guy in favor the explicitly JEWISH state of Israel.

Not to mention things like this:

Currently, Israeli marriage licenses are recognized only if performed under an official religious authority (whether it be Orthodox Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Druze, etc.) only between a man and a woman of the same religion, while civil marriages are only officially sanctioned if performed abroad. This is a major issue among secular groups, as well as adherents to non-Orthodox streams of Judaism. There is fear that civil marriage will divide the Jewish people in Israel between those who can marry Jews and those who cannot, leading to concerns over retaining the character of the Jewish state.

Anyone watch "An Idiot Abroad"? The one where he gets kidnapped in Israel is hilarious... ergo, Israel is funny.

Gay marriage, I grant you. Abortion is not an explicitly religious issue, though it has been taken over by the religious right. And the president talking is not a law. You're 1 for 3 there.

He also didn't say he approved of opposition to gay marriage or whatever other religious law you care to name.

Ever heard of 'the fallacy of the excluded middle'?
Oh, you say that you are religious based, but really doesn't mean it for serious ?

Christianity says nothing about abortion either. Where in the Bible does it say "Thou shalt not have an abortion"?

This is not proper English:

Oh, you say that you are religious based, but really doesn't mean it for serious ?

Can we get a native speaker to confirm that that is not meaningful English?

What are you trying to say? That I say I am not religious-based but that I'm not being serious when I say that? How does that make sense in response to my posts?

EDIT: Wiki says Hitchens believes a fetus is an unborn child, but for some reason endorses medical (drug-based, non-surgical) abortion. Makes no sense to me, but anyway, he's apparently pro-life to some weird extent.

BS. Christianity doesn't say anything about owning a glock or for that matter anything about homeschooling.
Actually, you could take a religious position for or against either of those things. And there are a good number of religiously pro-choice folks (the nauseating "Reverend" Al Sharpton comes to mind). Furthermore, Christianity is opposed to, among other things, gang rape, arson, and torture. Are laws against those things intrinsically religious? No. You do not have to be Christian to oppose those. Or to oppose abortion. Pretty much the only opposition to gay marriage comes from religious objections, so that example holds. Though I guess there might be some people who just think gays are icky or something.

Christianity says nothing about abortion either. Where in the Bible does it say "Thou shalt not have an abortion"?
Yes and no. While the Bible makes no clear reference to abortion, the church has been opposed to it from pretty much the get-go. There's a whole slew of church father quotes floating around the internet to that effect. Now, if you're going to insist on Sola Scriptura, that means nothing. But Sola Scriptura sucks.

Thanks for the link, Wezil. So he's...pro-choice...ish. Or something. Well, I know there are pro-life atheists, either way.

It's grammatically incorrect, and when applied to a person "religious-based" would seem to be a redundant construction, if it means anything at all. He seems to be implying that there is no middle to be excluded other than hypocrisy (whereas, if I'm reading you right, you meant that there's a world of difference between the religious tinge of U.S. politics and stoning prostitutes to death).
