Default Using google earth to measure shots (make a yardage book?)
Anyone using google earth's ruler feature to make their own yardage books? Or measure notable shot distances? For example here is a bog drive I hit (through the fairway and into the woods, 1 stroke penalty) 320yds accordign to the ruler feature. You could use this to make your own yardage book of carry distances etc.

Actually been contemplating this for a tournament my buddy and I are going to be doing in October, was more concerned with the greens maybe using google earth to print out each green then playing the course a few times and writing down how they are sloped and all.

I have gone back and checked distance on a shot afterward but never thought of it for a yardage book. Accuracy seems good enough as well

I actually made yardage books off of Google Earth, and they worked out really well. If anyone would like one made of a course send me a PM and I'll get one done as time permits me. They usually take me about 2 days to get right. Also, for those going to the Iowa outing, I am planning on making a few so each cart or 4some can have one if they like.

Nice site. assuming it is accurate, then I can safely say that most yardage markers at my course are off by 5 yards.

Unfortunately it was 0/2 on my two home courses. Neither are listed

I've been using SkyDroid as my yardage app which uses Google Maps to plot the courses. It is very accurate as I played with a guy with the new Bushnell and I was giving him the correct yardage before he could get it. Before I play a new course I check the map on the website to make sure it is marked properly and then I can add targets if I want.

Yup, any time I'm going to play a new course I'll print off a score card and plot out danger areas and what clubs I SHOULD hit
but never do. Guess I have to make sure those danger areas are where Google says they are.....they are!

Thanks, Ive not seen that site before and can see the value in using it to plot out club selection ahead of time.

You can just move the map if you can find a course near the one you want to look at.

Yay, more google stuff to play with. Can't wait to check out the other site as well. This seems like a no brainer. The difference on your club selection could be huge.

I just used it to get appx distances to spots I like to be off the tee. There were a few that I found were much farther than I thought, which explains why I rarely got a ball there.

The measure links site is great. I've looked at my home course and using holes I'm sure of the yardage their tool seems to work pretty well.

This seems to be quite accurate. I think I will use it to verify some distances to hazards and preferred lay up positions.
