The belly has actually really slowed down my swing and taken the funky movements out of it. I have to be much more balanced and I can't try to kill the ball either. It's a 'fat-suit' that golfers can strap on to take the kinks outta their swing. Ya could get Billy Mays to do the infomercials and make a gazillion. |

Good for you Kobie. Best balls are a lot of fun in my opinion.
As I am kind of an all or nothing golfer the best ball format should be a good one for me. But I'm telling you I suck at it. Often I am the longest hitter in the group and bat cleanup. What this means is I always over swing when we have a ball in play and I slap it all over the lot. In addition the secret to scoring in a best ball is the ability to make the 15 foot birdie putt as you pretty much have a birdie putt on every hole. But I'm just not a great putter and obviously neither are the partners I play with. ![]() |

Played in a best ball tourney yesterday. Shot a 2-over, which isn't anything to write home about, but I played probably as well as I've ever played. My driver was long and straight as an arrow and my mid-range game was clicking. Putting was acceptable. |

You must be pretty damn solid if you have a birdie putt every hole in best ball. I've got a good best ball story. Years ago a high school classmate was struggling with cancer and there was a tourney to raise money for his treatment. My team consisted of a friend of mine who rarely plays and is terrible, his neighbor who had never been on a golf course in his life and honestly asked if we could tee up our shots in the fairway and a 4th guy who didn't show. So it was pretty much me against a field of teams consisting of club pro's, college players etc. Well surprise surprise we tied for last place with, get this, a team full of mothers. I told my buddy that if we took the booby prize he was going up there as I was NOT going to take the prize in front of my old high school baseball teammates. Fortunatly we won (lost?) the tiebreaker of highest score and didn't take the prize. |

In a 4 man best ball I would think most teams rarely chip don't you think? In a best ball format, there really is no "team". Each person plays their own ball tee to green and the best score of the two/four is what goes on the card. In a scramble, everyone tees off, but then each player plays the next shot from where the team feels is the most advantageous position. Every player plays from the same place after the tee shot. I've played in a lot of scrambles, but only a couple of best balls. |

You may be confusing a "best ball" tourney with a scramble. |

I never quite got why they call it "best ball". Seems to me it should be "best hole". I can see where there would be confusion. Especially since a lot of people call scrambles "best ball scrambles". |

Whoever played the best ball on the hole counts. That is where it comes from. It is only that best refers to "during the entire hole" rather than "on each shot" like a lot of people think. ![]() |

It is only that best refers to "during the entire hole" rather than "on each shot" like a lot of people think. http://golf.about.com/cs/golfterms/g/bldef_fourball.htm The reason for the distinction is that, in Scotland, they used to always play a game called 'foursomes' where there is only two balls in play, using alternate shot. They still play two-man team matches like that there to speed up play, and they still use it in the Ryder Cup and President's Cup. http://golf.about.com/cs/golfterms/g/bldef_scotch4.htm |

The original name of it is 'four ball', as all four balls are individually in play. That's what they still call it in the Ryder Cup and President's Cup. |

Out of our 74, I figure we used 55 or 60 of my shots. The only bad part is I'm certain this kind of shooting will go away once I'm not pregnant anymore. It is fun while it lasts though. |
