Morgan Cup Matchup Announcement

One thing the Morgan Cup tries to do well is be as fair as possible. With the addition of a 3rd team and 8 more golfers, getting skill levels to match up is not all that easy. THP has decided on a way that we think will be the best thing that has ever happened to the Morgan Cup. Treating it more like a tour event than ever before.

We have searched high and low for the best way to create compelling and fair match ups and have spoken to the captains, tour players and sponsors about this issue and have come up with a solution that we think is perfect. Once in the Morgan Cup, all players are equal as far as we are concerned. So with that being said, each captain will be entirely responsible for their own lineup.

What this means is that each captain will turn in their own lineup without knowing who the opponents will be (they will send them off 1-8). These lineups will be turned into the Tour Rep for the Morgan Cup and organizer of the entire event GolferGal on a specified date. From there, each segment of the Morgan Cup will be announced.

All of the staff players in the Morgan Cup are wonderful additions to what we hope is a tradition on THP. Win, lose or draw, each person will be a part of something that they will never forget and THP will certainly never forget them for it. There will be some lopsided match ups, but there will also be some really compelling match ups and we believe in the end, it will make things more interesting than ever before.

Every player that is a part of this, is on a level playing field as far as we are concerned and understanding the logic behind this makes things far more realistic for all of the staffers. We believe it also adds more to the idea of being a captain for these events. THP wishes everybody the best of luck and we hope everybody on the forum gets to join in on the fun whether it be in Myrtle Beach or watching the online coverage of the 2012 Morgan Cup.

I love how we are setting the matches this year.

I really like that idea and think it is a great tweak from the original event.

The way we thought of it was pretty simple. This year there are players that are lower indexed than the rest of the field by a pretty big margin. If they go up against the best of the other 2 teams, than it might lead to something that is not as much fun throughout. This way, the entire field is in play, and you might have a 4 handicap go up against a 15. But you also might have a 10 go up against a 17 to get that point right back.

I like this idea and think this will turn out to be a great way of doing the matchs.

of all the options we went over this was my favorite. I think it brings everything in play and gives the captains the most influence when deciding on the matches. Instead of trying to set a specific match it comes down to each captain throwing out a pairing they think will play well together. I think it adds the most intrigue because you can come up with some really good matches that you may not have thought of when trying to set fair matches.

Oh, this is going to be fun for everyone. I love the Ryder Cup style pairings. Set your lineup and go! Should be fun and definitely adds a level of excitement for those of us who are not involved - I'll be sure to keep a close eye on this.

I think you made a great decision.

For all the matches.

This is very cool. I like this idea.

Juersdodfs 03-05-2012 08:46 PM

I think this is great. In the end it depends how well you play on the day and certainly most of us have not played under these conditions before. Anything can happen in match play.

You said it dude - that was my first thought as well. This could make for some really fun, big time upsets.
