Default Online Handicaps - MyScorecard.com
I have tried a number of different online handicap websites, such as fairwayfiles, OOB, Yahoo's Handicap Service, etc and never really thought they worked too well. I found MyScorecard.com, and they claim they Handicap they give you conforms to the official guidelines and is a correct handicap, as well as offering clubs on it's website that conform to the USGA requirements. There is a 1-month free trial, then after that it is around $12.00 per year, and after playing around on the site and entering my scores from the past few months, it seems pretty legit.

Anyone else use this site for Handicap tracking, or know anything about it?

I only have one question. Is it legal?

Seems pretty legit.

Pulled this from their FAQ section;
The Plain English Answer: The USGA has two "requirements" for a handicap to be official. The first is the calculation, and the handicap you receive on MyScorecard conforms to official guidelines and is the correct handicap. The second is what the USGA calls "group cohesion," and it means that you need to be part of a local group/club that is recognized by the USGA and conforms to its requirements. MyScorecard has these clubs on its web site, and we let you join these clubs easily and at no extra charge, in the same way you would join a club formed by one of your friends on the site - in fact, we also help you form them if you are interested in running your own official club (for friends, other MyScorecard members, or both). If you are part of one of these clubs on MyScorecard, you then meet both requirements, and yes your handicap is official (your club will be listed on the USGA web site).

The Jargon Answer: MyScorecard offers official handicaps to members who are part of an Official USGA Club formed on its web site. There is no additional charge for forming or being a member of such clubs. MyScorecard allows the formation of "type 2" golf clubs (which we call "private," and is a club without real estate formed by members with pre-existing affiliation), or members can form or join a "type 3" golf club (which we call "open," and is a club without real estate, with recruiting through solicitation to the general public in a specific area like greater Chicago). MyScorecard facilitates the Official Club formation, application, and maintenance process through its Web Site, and enables the club to issue Official USGA handicap cards to club members (you can print them out straight from the web site). Official clubs are recognized by the USGA, and are listed on the USGA web site. Official Clubs must adhere to USGA rules and requirements, including that of handicap committee, peer review, and group cohesion. You can form or join an official club by pressing the Clubhouse link in the navigation bar, and then selecting Find Clubs or Create Clubs link.If you are not part of an Official USGA Club on the Web Site, then the handicap calculated by the Service is not an official USGA handicap (in this case, the handicap you will receive will be for entertainment purposes only, and does not, nor is intended to provide or replace an official USGA handicap), and you will not have access to a handicap card. Only Official Golf Clubs can issue an official handicap. For more on official USGA handicap requirements, please visit the USGA web site at www.usga.org.

In all seriousness the one thing I hate is entering everything in when I can just use my phone and its already there when Im done. Rules were made for breaking! Do they have an app?

Not that I know of, but it's pretty easy to enter scores. I might create a "group" on there and see what that does.

This is what it says about clubs/groups;

MyScorecard allows you to create your own club, to which you can invite your friends and colleagues or other MyScorecard members. You can also apply to make your club official, and offer your members USGA handicap cards. You can create multiple clubs (e.g. one for just your private friends, one for all MyScorecard members). You will become the administrator of each club you create, responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of the club. To create a club, please fill in the form below. Your Club ID and Password will be sent to invited members and be used to access the club.

Never heard of them before W E, but I may just give them a look/see. I like oob, but it does not list as an "official" handicap.

You should look at all the local courses. Some of them don't have all the tee boxes and such. Just an FYI

I have used OOB in the past, but was quite interested in this one. Trying to find out some more info on them.

I didnt seem to have any issues with tee boxes and what not with this site, seemed pretty in depth.

I like oob because it's free and it's easy to track while on course and keep stats for your round

I'm not at the point where I really need an official handicap so it's not a big deal for me yet

Yeah I actually added a tee box to a course up north of me. No big deal really.

Sounds pretty neat. I am going to keep track of all my stats this year for the first time and keep a HDCP (official or other) and this sounds great.

One cool feature that I found is that once you have a good bit of scores entered (20+), it can calculate what score you need to shoot in order to drop your Handicap from where it sits currently.

I am going to do a better job of keeping my stats as well. If you join up, let me know, I can make a group for THPers (obviously unofficial).

I encourage people to join their state golf associations. Probably costs $30 to $40, and you can enter your scores online. It's $30 here in Cheeseland I believe. Mine comes with my club membership. Here in WI some of this money goes toward supporting junior golf.

That's what I'll be doing plus it'll allow you to join their tourneys.

This is not something I was aware of, thanks for the info! I just looked around on the Florida State Golf Association website, and the membership there qualifies you for an official GHIN and allows you to post online.

What's nice is then you're undoubtedly official. Here in WI you can look up the handicap and the scoring history of anyone that is a member.

I never realized that joining the state golf association entitled you to a GHIN, for some reason I always thought it was only through Home Courses/Clubs.
