Ok so I searched through and read some of the posts to get a general idea but I was hoping I could still get some help/advice/thoughts from you guys.
I am playing a 4 man scramble on sunday and I have no idea how I should setup our group in order of shots (This is my first 4 man scramble) The course is going to be at 6300 yards. Our team is 2 longer hitters (Travis and Sean), me who is average length, and a buddy (Errol) who in new to the game but has the occasional good shot. I kind of know how the 4 mans work but can we hit in whatever order we want after the tee shot or does it follow from there? What should our order be off the tee? putting? approach shots? Here is what I think our strongest-->weakest would be for each shot: Tee: Travis is the best player, then Sean is long but hasnt played in a while, I hit fairways, and errol likes to go right. Putting: I think that Sean or I will be the best putter, then Travis, then errol. Chipping:Me, Travis, Sean, Errol Irons: Travis, Sean, Me, Errol Also...say we hit our approach shots and travis hits the green and I am 3 feet short...can we try chip that ball to try to hole it for birdie or would that not let us use the ball on the green as a safer attempt? Thanks in advance for all the help ![]() |

Yep, you can hit in whatever order you want. Any time.
I say you want your most accurate driver to hit first. Get one safe, then bomb away. Same with other shots. With drives though, you'll probably have to use everyone's drive at least 3 or 4 times. Pujtting, have your best putter putt last. Let him use everyone else to help with the line. And for your last thing, I guess it would depend on how far the putt is from the hole. If not a long way, probably best to do the putt. |

putting is huge in a scramble like this....always have your best guy go last and make sure everyone stands behind whoever is putting so they can watch the line....and make sure whoever putts first gets the ball to the hole at least...it's a wasted effort if he leaves it 3 feet short.
As Smallie said, have your most accurate driver go first and get a good safe shot in the fairway, then the other guys can rip it without fear of not having a shot. And be prepared, alot of time they will make you use everyones drive at least twice..so the newer guy if he happens to hit a decent drive on a short par 4 you might think about taking his over one of the better ones just to get his out of the way....nothing worse than getting to the last hole and realizing that you haven't used enough of the worst drivers' tee shots and then watch him rope one out of bounds! Good luck, scrambles are a blast! |

Your most consistant player should go first for shots off the green, get a safe ball out there and then the others can hammer away. Putting, let the person who is an excellent speed putter go first, line doesn't matter because four of you are picking the line. If you can't hit some putts in these things, your done anyway. Don't always look to take the closest ball to to the green. Most players who don't play much would be better with the 80-100yd shot -VS- that 50yder.
That's my two cents. |

Wow lots of advice. I am on the train, where if you have to use everyone's tee shot at Least twice, or so, use them earlier. I tend to do it on short par 4s or par 3s where the worst you will do us make par. Nothing worse than only having one person allowed to hit one on 18.
The rest of the guys are spot on with get one in play (not necessarily fairway) but playable. You have 1 club length from thr ball to give yourself a better lie. Use it. Tap, tap, tap. Just tap it in Happy |

Thanks guys we played a practice round today and I think we are going to do well and we dont have to use peoples drives a certain amount of times. Everyone was hitting fairways and the course is pretty short which helps a lot. Only bad thing is the course is really wet in the mornings and it seems like the greens play faster when wet.
Tee order:Errol, Me, Sean, Travis Putting order:Errol, Travis, Sean, Me Help was really appreciated! Ill let you know how we finish (and I will post a picture of my outfit lol) |

I've always found that having 3 better golfers than me helps alot!!
Seriously, have your most consistent driver put one in the fairway and then the pressure is off the following players. It doesn't hurt to have your best/most experienced player hit last in case it is a must have shot. He should be able to handle that situation better. In the fairway ALWAYS give yourself the best lie possible within that club length. I played a scramble 2 weeks ago and everyone just dropped their ball anywhere. Had a partner hit out of an old divot before I could say anything. Drove me nuts. (we didn't win) Good luck and let us know how you did. |
