Wanting to play, but no one to play with...
I have only like 3 friends of mine that actually golf. I have been wanting to golf the last 2 weekends but can't get anyone to go with me. Everyones too busy or can't get sitters, etc.
I don't want to head to a course myself. What do you do in this case? Its really starting to frustrate me. I want to play!!! |
Post an ad on your local craigslist with the title "Golf Bromance Wanted"
Youll find plenty of people to play golf with. |
You need to call your course and ask if they can place you with other people. I have meet some incredible people. Some that I still golf with 2 years later. Oh and then they became friends....Enjoy

Definitely check to see if there are THP members in your area. Otherwise, no reason not to go by yourself. I get grouped with people all the time and haven't had a bad experience yet.

Yeah, I kind of love playing by myself.. It's so peaceful.
Definitely check with your course to see if other singles are booked, or even put your name on a singles list that allows you to get paired up with other people. |
Depending on how popular the place is you play, most often than not if you play as a single they'll pair you up with another group. If not then it'll be a nice leisurely round all to your lonesome.

Do you play the same course every week when you do get to play? If so, maybe think about joining one of the Men's leagues and meet people from your home course that can play. Looking for other Local THP'ers is always a great option. Spaceman Spiff and I have gotten together and played that way.
Asking the pro to place you with a 2-some or 3-some is also a great way to meet other golfers, and if they are playing the same day as you chances are that they will be free to play again on that same day |
When I joined my current club 25 years ago, I really knew no one there, and I often played alone back in those days. I was often introduced to others in the early days, and played with strangers all the time. It was a great way to meet new people and I have made some very good friends over the years there in doing so.
Just go as a single, and don't be afraid to play with strangers. There are some great people out there that don't want to play alone either. |
I am almost always a single playing as not only do I not have many golfing friends where I live at home but I also travel with my clubs when I'm on business trips. Like others have said, if I'm paired with a group of 2-3, I typically have a good time and a few times, have met some folks that I have played with again. In fact, one of my normal playing groups in Las Vegas I met last year because I was a single paired with them and I have a monthly game in New Jersey with some folks that I was paired with.
Also, playing alone is a really nice thing from time to time. You play at your pace and don't have to worry about stepping in anyone's putting line, waiting for someone to go through their pre-shot routine, etc. I find it a time to either completely lose myself in the game/course or to clear my head. |
I barely know anyone around here that plays golf, so I go out as a single all the time. Don't worry about people judging your game or anything like that, most people are too wrapped up in their own game to notice. Plus, you will meet all kinds of great people, and you may be able to find some new golfing partners by doing that.

Ok so question. Can you just show up as a single? OR do you need to call the course and try and get paired up/make a tee time?
|
I love playing golf with my buddies, we always have a great time and even though we are of different levels there is no bs and there is lots of support and good natured ribbing. When they are not available I enjoy going out as a single just as much. When I get paired with total strangers I sometime play better and I think that is because I am more relaxed and am just focusing on the game and could care less whet the people I am playing with think. It allows me to focus more and I usually score better. Now I just need to bring that game with me when I play my friends!!!

As others have said defintiely go as a sigle if you can;t find anyone else to play with. it may start out quiet but usually by the 3rd or 4th hole everyone is talking and haivng a great time.

funny, when I play with 'strangers' I tend to be the exact opposite of you

Most courses here won't let me book a single tee time. I just call and ask them when I can come up and they can get me on.

I was in the same boat, used to play all the time with 2 buddies, but now its darn near impossible to get them out. So I got a membership to a club where a guy I work with has a membership, so I play with him sometimes, or with another friend that joined, and if not them, I try to latch on to some other groups going out. Not a big fan of playing by myself, so I'll take my girls out to ride in the cart with me and keep me entertained
