Default completely lost my swing
So after firing a 39 last week in league this early in the season I thought I was on the right track. I thought I was already back in midseason form. However, I have proceeded to play 2 rounds of 9 holes since then and have not even been able to complete half the.holes because we have to pick up at double bogey. Last night I only got to finish 3 holes, and 2 of those I actually putted to EARN my double, all the other holes I had to pick up before I even got to the green because we have a double bogey limit in league. I would have easily been around 60 had i finished every hole. Anyway....my miss before was always just on my long irons. I always had great ball striking but my long irons would just hook. Well now I can't even get a ball airborn. I'm sh*nking everything straight to the right. It literally shoots off about 100 to the right and barely goes forward at all. I have never played this bad in my life and it is so frustrating. When I did it last week I just told myself it was one round and it would just go away. It was even worse yesterday. Even going to the range a couple times earlier in the same week I was having the same problem there. I had one day where I had probably the best range day I've ever had, and then the next day I was sh*nking them all over the range. I have completely lost it!

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! I've been there dude. A couple weeks ago in fact. Take a deep breath and just get back to basics. Usually it's just one little thing and as we try and self diagnose we miss it, then "correct" something that doesn't need correcting and so on. Even on the good range days we always try and figure how we can get better. Itll come back. Thainer has a real good drill for the s word. A tad scary but worth every second.

I feel your pain for sure. That helpless feeling you get when you've talked yourself into a bad shot before its even taken is the pits. Check your address and ball position and go from there. Good luck!

I feel your pain! I sway in and out of bad rounds all the time. Most of the time for me when I am hitting really bad to the right and low its because I am pulling my head up and not staying down on the ball. Keep your focus and make sure to not lift your head. You will come out of it. Just have to be patient and not let the frustration get the best of you. Goood LUck!

Like our resident pro Andy has told many of us, try swinging with your feet together on the practice range. Make sure you fire through and around your left side. Another thought for on the course is keep your arches of your feet screwed to the ground. Feel like you are in a huge barrel of cement and you can not sway forward onto your toes. I feel your pain INgolfer as it only takes one fault in your swing to throw so much off. Good luck and I hope you get your balance back .

p.s. I would highly suggest going to the ask the pro section and see what Andy can advise you.

Frustrating, and embarassing...Happened to me on a 4 day golf trip to Myrtle a few years ago....On day 1, I was at the range hitting balls before the 1st round...because the wind was up I tried to hit my last 3 or 4 balls as low punch shots.....And the sh*nks appeared....Frustrating.....It would take me 3 shots to get to a 160 yard par 3.....More than 1/2 the holes were pickups, we have a double par rule so my numbers were high..I just punched 7 irons down the fairways...And on the 10th hole of day 4 everything came back...Who knows why..The Golf Gods just showing me who was in charge...All I did between rounds was go to the range and try to hit 1/2 shots, trying to work things out..I looked like Kevin Costner in Tin Cup when his game left him....All I could suggest is range time, don't try too hard and perserverance...Good Luck

I can totally relate to what you are going through right now. It started with my driver and fairway and hybrids and then it decided to sneak into all of my clubs. I did the same thing Yoccos was talking about and tried to self diagnose my problem and it only got worse.

Usually it's just one little thing and as we try and self diagnose we miss it, then "correct" something that doesn't need correcting and so on.
I was starting to cut/slice/sh**k on every tee box so I figured I was coming over the top. TOTALLY WRONG! I had a lesson with the pro last night and turns out that I was over compensating so much that I was actually coming too far from the inside, completely collapsing my right side and pretty much dragging the heel of the club through the hitting zone. This caused all of the hoselrockets in my irons and was leading me to hit everything off the heel of my woods/hybrid.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem for you or not, but I would also suggest going to Andy in the Ask the Pro section. He's helped me out before when I couldnt get in a lesson.

When I'd start sh**** my instructor would have me setup normal, then swing and take a divot inside the ball. The drill was intended to show me the problem is all in my head and that I have control of the problem. Good way to try and get back on track during a round.

I will also setup two tees with the ball in the middle and hit the ball missing the two tees.

What's even worse was on the second hole I was hitting out of foot-long grass and I swung so hard I did something to my wrist and its kinda tender now. It didn't bother me too much so I can't blame my performance on that

Sometimes the game goes beyond just clubs and golf balls...

You prob had things running in the back of your mind and it threw off your concentration.

Don't sweat 1 round. It's a minor speed bump in a long road trip.

I've had the same problem just with my driver for the past two weeks, I couldn't hit a driver straight, just duck hooks all over the place, it ended up just being a really easy fix in my set up and I'm back to hitting them as I normally do. If you can, take a quick video of yourself and then watch it, its amazing what you can see. I have a video that I keep on my computer of myself that was from a range session where I was never hitting the ball better than I ever have. If something goes wrong in my swing, I just take a another video and compare.

just had my lesson last night and he had me working on a new move to get my swing back on plane. Hitting the range this afternoon followed by 9 or 18 to straighten it all out.

I've played a long time and for me golf has always been very day to day. I play great one day and not so good the next at times. I don't worry much about it. The great days is what keeps you going back. I have find a particular problem I can't work through in a few days, I just go find my teacher and have him take a look. He can normally fix me in minutes.

I went out to the range on my lunch break today. I think I'm figuring out that I am just not transferring my weight properly from my back foot to my front foot. I don't know what caused me to start doing this but I THINK that is what it is. It could be a million things but I hit a few good ones when I concentrated on shifting my weight properly. We'll see. I'm thinking of just taking a few days off and just working on my short game and then letting the swing come back to me.

Go to the range, put your feet together, use your shoulder turn, and hit golf balls.

If that doesn't work, perhaps some GI irons?

I suppose it helps to know all of us have days, weeks, and even months when the wheels fall off. You are not in it by yourself so have faith that it will work out. Hang in there
